Semantics again. You still fail to address the facts that your christian western civilization did not develop or invent the thing of which you spoke of.

I have given you facts and you can't even come back with a logical reply for debate. That's kind of sad.

Another useful tactic is to get people drawn off on tangents and side issues while the main questions get ignored. It seems to be quite effective here, especially of late.

Read your history. It is well known that scientists of that era wrote church supporting stuff in their publicly accessable works out of fear of the church and reserved their true thoughts to their private diaries that we am now uncovering.

Badger
When have I picked stuff out of the Bible and said it was lies? when?

Prove it is "well known" by quoting sources - exactly who else believes that these scientists wrote church supporting stuff out of fear? And what is their supporting data regarding such belief?

Shit or get off the pot.

We are using words. Words have meanings. Therefore when a person uses a word it has a distinct meaning. This is called a syllogism (logic). Syllogism have a major premise, a minor premise and a conclusion.

If you want to rewrite the dictionary - go ahead, but people will have a hard time understanding you.

You can mock me all you want. You can falsely accuse me all you want. But it doesn't change reality. You see, we have a written record of all that has transpired here. It's easy to go back and follow the discussion.

Read through the whole of leviticus and tell me that you follow and agree with it all. Then try and tell me you don't pick and choose.

I'll have to get back to on the cites. I'll need a little time too dig up the info.

We are using words.
Words have meanings.
Therefore when a person uses a word it has a distinct meaning.

In no part of this so-called syllogism do you distinguish that a specific meaning is assigned to the word. Except in the conclusion.

We --> words
Words --> meanings
We --> words --> distinct meaning

To be a logical syllogism:

'We' is a word
Words have meanings
'We' has meanings

You have to join the M-P to S-M in such a manner that P-S. Not restate the whole argument in the conclusion. But you sure did made him look uneducated with that dig. Bravo toots.

Yep.. sure does. This is my answer:

From the point where Western Civilization "started" - say the day Christ was born or sometime soon thereafter - up to now (assuming we are still in "Western Civilization") it's been "Western Civilization" that have "developed" these "wonderful things" named above. The other "civilization" are not credited with this development.

Oook... I read the first link which still backs up what I was saying about that he was in fear of the church. The had him under house arrest for a good chunk of his life and forced him to recant his heresy (which was usually punishable by death if you didn't have connections in that day and age).

"Galileo was required to recant his heliocentric ideas, declaring the immobility of the sun to be "absurd in philosophy and formally heretical", and the mobility of the Earth "to be at least erroneous in faith";

He was ordered imprisoned; the sentence was later commuted to house arrest for the rest of his life.

His offending Dialogue was banned; and in an action not announced at the trial, publication of any of his works was forbidden, including any he might write in the future[13] "

You prove my point with your own link.

As for your second link, was that the right one? All it is is a college course catalog.

Lot of people kept there faiths during the Inquisition. This article does not state that Galileo lost his faith because of the Church's behavior. In fact, the article leads one to the conclusion that Galileo was in discussion with the Church and was trying to persude them otherwise. I grant that the Church had more power than he, and Galileo suffered it.
Read your history. It is well known that scientists of that era wrote church supporting stuff in their publicly accessable works out of fear of the church and reserved their true thoughts to their private diaries that we am now uncovering.
But nowhere did it state that Galileo had private diaries that denied his faith.

The second link was about Religion and Science and how religion influenced science. It was not about Galileo per se.

So, you are saying that civilizations before Christ had all the advances that we enjoy today?

That all Christian Europe did was steal stuff that was already there?

These BCers had full blown Chemistry, Physics, Math, Cars, Airplanes, Modern Highways, Space Shutters, Computers, Electricity, Light bulbs, Microwaves ovens, Tractors, Waste water treatment plants, Oil refineries, Food manufacturing plant, Steel mills, TV, Satilites, Cameras, Video players, Anti-biotics, anti-cancer drugs, surgery, modern antiseptics, toothpaste, movies, atomic bombs, guns, missles, machine guns, cruise ships, email, etc, etc, etc....

Wow - I never knew....
