And does anybody really want to pay $10 to watch Bruce Willis, the Olson Twins and Joe Pesci do an improvisational movie?

I wouldn't say that too loud. These are the people who are really paying your wages. And you are going to piss them off.

I used to play bass. I still have my guitars and amps. I have even wrote a couple of songs myself. I even know a couple of guys that play guitar and drums. I haven't had much time lately but I am sure that I could make some time by turning of the boob tube. And you know what? I had way more fun playing in that garage band then I have ever had watching TV. Come to think of it. I have had more fun singing around the piano with the family, playing lawn darts and making my own art projects than I ever had watching TV.

I do support artists. My collection of vinyl weighs over half a ton. I have a subtantial collection of CDs. I own over 500 videos. The day you say that I have to pay you a risidual every time I play one of them is the day I pile them all in a heap and burn them. (And don't you dare say that someone has not already tried to figure out a way to do that.) I still know how to play my guitar.

By the way, I didn't hear anyone say "Hey it was so nice of you to support us by buying that movie on vhs that now we are going to give you a nice price break for buying it on DVD."

The main issue is not collecting on already paid for media, but Internet advertising of which is expected to be in the billions of dollars. The Ipod and other large screen cell phones market are expected to push that total 10x to 100x more in world sales. The past agreements were based on record companies contracted sales and the average return to a song writer was about five cents a record (which hasn't been raised since the 50's) which is about the same for tv writers, but you don't have an advertisments (actually 4-5 per internet viewing) on records, CDs, older tapes and DVD's. today, you have some form of advertising on every media type so it's important to include what new advances in cash generating forms that the old contract doesn't cover.

As a photographer and writer, I don't do "For Hire" sales, but I do that because I don't have to. My clients know that would cost them thousands of dollars to buy all rights because that is the way we have worked for decades. I have several photos that are rebought every year or so and I resell them at higher rates to include cost of living increases. TV show writers do not have that luxury. Once, they sign that contact, they can never go back and say, "Hey, the cost of doing business, gas and food have gone up, I want my fee adjusted for that!" They may only have one hit show in their lifetime if they are that lucky and they may never be back on another one so it may be like they are losing more money now, but once those show are viewed on every ipod and laptop computer, they will recoup those losses within a couple of years.

Fight ON!

Found this on Yahoo:

Imagining an Awkward Oscars Monologue
Wednesday January 23 5:00 PM ET

The Academy Awards have vowed that the show will go on, strike or no strike. Herewith, one rendition of what Jon Stewart's Oscar monologue could be on Feb. 24:

___

Thank you, and thank you all for coming here tonight. I know you had to cross picket lines to get here, which is slightly more perilous than crossing Billy Bush on the red carpet. But I'm greatly honored to be standing in front of the least star-studded Oscar audience in history. I might actually be the most famous person here. Oh, wait, there's the YouTube kid who sings "Chocolate Rain." I stand corrected.

This monologue couldn't be written due to the writers strike, so it's been suggested that I kill time by chatting with the front-row celebs Jack Nicholson and the like. I don't see Jack or just about anyone else out there so, Seat Filler No. 37, how does it feel to be here tonight? Oh, you old rascal, Seat Filler No. 37.

Am I just talking to a sea of seat fillers? Did you all just blink in unison? I think that dude is a cardboard cutout. Oh, my apologies, Keira. Yikes. Speaking of "I'm Not There" ...

The Coen brothers' "No Country for Old Men" is up for a leading eight nominations, as is "There Will Be Blood," which, as you know, is about the Democratic primaries. It was originally titled, "There Will Be Kucinich," but it was deemed too scary in test screenings.

So what a cheery bunch of films we have here tonight. The best picture nominees are "Atonement," "Juno," "Michael Clayton," "No Country for Old Men" and "There Will Be Blood." Altogether, they deal with corporate greed, oil, lying, teen pregnancy and crime just like the presidential candidates.

I'll say it now, to get it over with: Why wasn't John McCain nominated for "No Country for Old Men"? I also thought his bus, the Straight Talk Express, was excellent in "Transformers."

We do have the great Viggo Mortensen nominated for best actor. Viggo. That name reminds me of a European car, as in: "Your SUV ran over my Viggo." Actually, Mr. Mortensen is our only nominee who gave a performance complete with full frontal nudity. In the minds of most women, he's the hands-down winner.

"Juno" is the indie hit this year, and the lone comedy to be nominated for best picture. It was written by the young screenwriter Diablo Cody, who used to be a stripper. At the rate this strike is going, some people are considering the reverse career path.

Well, without further ado, we'll begin with awards. And, yes, this monologue has been my "Atonement."

Here are Kathy Griffin and Sisqo to present the award for best supporting actress.
Okay, so ten out of ten for style, but minus several million for good thinking, yeah?

I have changed my mind on this.
Writers don't strike, hacks do.

So the more inappropriate question would be do you support the Hack strike.

I was confused, I thought this was about writers, people that create works from their imaginations, I didn't realize the post was about Network Whores that only cared about a mounds of toilet paper.

In that case I do have to recant, Network Whores do deserve everything they can suck out of a Producer.

I am a writer not a whore.

The difference is when I let someone fuck me in the ass, I want to be their.

I, too, was confused when I read the topic of this thread: supporting the script "writters." As a "writer" I know little about whores or toilet paper, but that's more a comment on my personal proclivities.
