I can't believe I made it

Post by Catwoman69y2k » Sat Jan 12, 2008 1:51 am

As a first time Burner in 2007, my biggest concern was arriving there unprepared and/or becoming a burden to the non-virgin that I would be driving there as well as sharing sleeping quarters with.

I had thought that just like any new experience, there was no way that I could plan for EVERYTHING and even those who have lots of experience under their belt will still get pelted with some unforeseeable circumstance. Knowing that I was about to embark on a week long campout in a desert (not to mention all the warnings of an especially dusty year), I had no idea what to expect. All I could think to myself was "Adapt or die, Kat. Use the sense that you were born with. Don't fuck this up."

I had a grand time and met many souls (whom I may never see again but that makes the place all the more magical), danced the night away with my friend Ron, experienced new things, tested out my boyfriend's masks for durability, witnessed not one but 2 burns and so much more.

Yet.....the one thought that still runs back to me is......

"Holy crap! My pale sensitive skin toting native San Franciscan self made it through that experience alive with my car still in once piece (aside: Im a new liscenced driver)"

***

Anyone else had that kind of recurring thought for their first burn?

Nope, not me, but I have been driving for over 20 years and this is my 7th car/truck.

I have been returning to BM year after year for the past 7 so I suppose some of that excitement and energy you have experienced probably persists for years to come.

Keep on riding that wave and remember that next year will be totally different and will blow your mind just as much as the first year did.

Yup. I dont what the "age" limit should be on a car. I have a 91 camry wagon and figure that Ill still have it by the time I burn again. It hit 200k miles on the way back from BM this year.

Age limit? Wow... I have a '55 Chevy Bel Air and I figure I'll have it until I'm dead... not that I'd EVER subject it to the playa, but I did see someone with a '57 wagon out there last year.
But then, old American cars are infinitely more rebuildable and durable than anything like what most people have now.
