I lived deep in the boondocks of West Virginia for 3 1/2 essential years of my early teenhood.
It took over 3 years to get rid of the accent.
If I am around any of my kin from back east, or around anyone from Texas, I start talking like that almost instantaneously.

i can also understand and do conversational Trailer Park, North Eastern and Mid-Atlantic.

As for the decline of the US, this is due to the Central Bankers.
