It's been know for quite a long time now that tuna has high levels of mercury. Enough that children shouldn't be eating those tuna sandwiches.

Now hope fully the tuna stocks can be revived before all are gone. Now the price of salmon will go skyhigh!

Stock market i'm not so sure.

It really depends on where the fish are harvested. Normally bottom-dwelling fish collect more heavy metals than pelagic fish like tuna. Thank god its too expensive to eat every day.

Were the Tuna Guys there in '07? Anyone know if they're planning on making it to '08?
Okay, so ten out of ten for style, but minus several million for good thinking, yeah?

Sorry, but it's the top feeders that get the most mercury in the sea!

Maybe you are talking about fresh water fish, but catfish (bottom feeders) are lowest.

See- http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~frf/sea-mehg.html

This link only has data on mercury, so you may be right on other metals!

The place I get my sushi from uses farm raised. Their tuna tataki is especially dandy. Sometimes I make my own sushi rolls with eel, salmon skin, etc.. yum yum.. I think I'm gonna have sushi for dinner.

The first fish I ever caught was out of the Trukee I think I was 4 or 5, He weighed almost 6 pounds and my Grandfather had to pull us both out of the water. That was the best fish I ever ate.

A lot of farm raised fish use wild fish as feed. It's the same food chain. Also, most farm raised have antibiotics & chemicals fed to them as well to try to contain the diseases that spread due to the unnaturally close quarters they're kept in.

You should also be aware that salt water fish, like tuna, that are "farm raised" are still farmed in the exact same ocean that the wild fish are in- the farmed ones are just in pens. Any metals or run-off that affects wild fish in the area will also affect the farmed ones.

Not saying don't enjoy your sushi, just saying be aware that "farm raised" doesn't equal "better than wild". In most cases wild fish is healthier & better for you (and tastes better).

If it makes you feel any better, almost all food we eat from veggies on up to the finest cuts of meat have contaminants as well. Wheee.

It doesn't. Now I'm joining PETA and becoming a vegan that grows all my own food. Its all YOUR fault.

j/k

Thanks for the heads up about farm raised.. didn't know that. Guess we're fucked any way you looks at it. They way I figure it at least I dont have to worry about the sushi chef scratchin his balls right before makin my roll or else I'd see him do it. I kinda dig the whole make the food in front of ya and extra clean environ I get from the sushi joint. Ya never know what that cook behind closed doors is doing with your food. After that movie "Waiting" I'm scared to eat anywhere where I can't see in the kitchen.
