The 2006 MOOP Map didn't come out until early summer last year if I recall correctly.
A plan is what you vary from.

Destiny Lounge 3D will be at Bradbury and 3:15 this year as a part of the 404: Village Not Found group of camps! Come see us!

I think I've seen the MOOP maps at Decomp for the past two years.

how accurate do you guys think those MOOP maps are in terms of showing a theme camp's dedication to policing their moop? This is what occurs to me: Camps split by Monday or Tuesday. Moop map is prepared weeks later after multiple windstorms blow crap from who knows where on to a them camp's plot.

Now, rebar and heavier items could be fairly attributable to the theme camp. But paper, feathers, etc? Who can say that didnt blow in from two camps over a week after everyone left?

Thanks Hot Sauce, that shows good detail on the 9:00 side of town.
Wishing for the reverse angle, detailing the 3:00 side.

Hey thanks for the photos!! I didn't realize the image had been seen already when I posted before so my apologies. And I'm really happy to see that Destiny Lounge has a nice green area on it at 3:00 and Arctic! I was so shocked last year when I saw that we, as the Bubble Bar, had a yellow area from 2006, and I suspect that wind blown element had something to do with it. I personally sifted lots of sand thru a screen into a bucket in 2006 and thought we had left our camp rather pristine! I know there are hot spots and nasty areas caused by specific camps, but you can see in both of those maps, especially side by side, how there is a definite pattern towards one side of the playa or the other where the concentration of MOOP is higher. I am guessing that has a direct correlation to the prevailing winds.

Yeah, that is from the blood stains Larry leaves behind after sacrificing
all of the DPW members who dare to complain about harsh working conditions or lowered pay scales.

Are the black spots where ppl pooped on the playa because the porta potties were no nasty at night? Are they burn scars from burned art that wasn't raised above the playa?

Could be some of that, but if you look closely you can see some of the spots are ID'd with descriptions: couch, lumber, fence, graywater, etc. I notice virtually all of the portapottie locations are red too.

the problem with the moop map is the traffic patterns and density on friday and sat nights reflect the red zones....we had over 5000 in the dome at root society and even though every member of our crew mooped our camp AND the surrounding playa in general (usually a good 300' out) each and EVERY day and after sunday as well....again, the problem is the high rate of people who, even though i begged, pleaded, harrased, threatened, cajoled into picking up just ONE fucking piece of moop on their way home after a night of enjoying the playa, our space, our gifts, only to be left with everybodies garbage...we hauled out close to a hunded bags of OTHER PEOPLES SHIT.

so take that into account when the holier than thou vegemites on tribe etc etc start tossing around blame like sean hannity with a stick up his ass.

chill out hippies, and think before you shoot off your mouths.

and next year, clean up after yourselves, i dont CARE how much fucking x you took the night before.....i took more, and i'm out there with a beer and a smile and a bag picking up goddamn glo-sticks.

oh....one more thing....playa poopers get shown NO MERCY.....

there...i'm done...i've vented....next year i'm bringing a giant fucking swiffer.

Wow Simon that sucks.

I am glad you did that though - thanks for your gift, your time, your resources to contribute so much

And I was biking along when one of my mates saw a dude craping on the playa - my buddy turned a little, to intercept him and simply shoved him by the forehead as he rode by making the guy sit in his own shit. The poopers were only a hundred yards away too.

playa justice?

Unfortunately it's not just people on tribe, universally people looked upon those maps with immediate scorn, got some feedback by a camp who said they got hate emails from it.

I raised my concerns on it's accuracy many times to different groups, including dpw and a person with them who made some of the red marks. That was the real shocker, they basically told me to fuck off, that since they do so much in cleaning up after others they didnt really care if they occasionally got something wrong, and that I was just trying to make trouble for them.

The high traffic areas are too good example. From personal experience and seeing what happens first hand at the ends of the city, its only a matter of hours after a moop sweep that theres more stuff, and not all of it from wind. Last year I even saw a person with a shovel spreading around playa drift piles to get to the buried things. And yet... those ares are still going to be marked red despite whatever you do or tell people.

It seems like the BMOrg is actually pretty pleased with the progress from 2006 to 2007. And from looking at the map, it looks pretty good. A couple of rough spots, but only from the tragedy of the commons, not from nefarious fuckos spewing moop "comme fontaine".

I don't think it is reasonable to assume everyone can hit the spittoon every time. I also think that given the great time everyone had at these "red zones", there might be bottle cap or two in the sawdust, so to speak. If you run a bar in a city, you really are expected to own a mop and a bucket.

It isn't perfect, but I'll bet it is better than any festival of equal size and diversity in human history.

Absolutely, and my comments were not to downplay the overall amazing ability to pull it off. It was more about people being wrongly accused and feeling disgruntled when they put in hard and dedicated work to clean up after so many others. It's hard to keep people going with that kind of passion when they get unjustly criticized over it, entierely worse when they try and address this with the org and have to defend themselves from a mob-mentality anxious to lynch someone over it.

I guarantee you, the org will continue to push its prominence despite any problems it causes, they have a knack of making bad things worse for the right reasons.

One of the interesting things was placement mentioning they only referenced it to guage repeat offenders, so the thinking was any mistakes made wouldnt apply after three or so maps. I hope they consider most large sound camps are put out at the ends where its always been marked solid red no matter who is out there or what has been done.

thank you specta....thank you....

we did get a lot of shit for the red zone......and we do feel a little disgruntled because we cleaned up after the party and still got yelled at.

and believe me, we tried...like i said, we hauled out and disposed of an enormous amount of others peoples gift trash...free garbage.....crap.

every day it was the same, and on friday and saturday and sunday morning, it was a fucking nightmare...except for the person who lost a vial of liquid and 20 really good pills, thank you my friend, i ate most of them...

i tell newbs every year to LOVE the playa and it will LOVE you back...and i have never been disappointed....if you spend 15-20 minutes mooping every day, i GAURaNTEE you will find drugs....the playa does give back to those who take care of her...

and if i see you fucking with her, i will say something and quite frankly, i'm pretty scary when i'm pissed, so i will definately harsh your mellow in a hot second if i see disrespect for our lovely lady.

she's really the reason i come back every year....i'm madly in love with the dusty emptiness, because it fills my soul...

i'm going to grab my jar of playa and take a deep whiff and sigh.
