We've had snow every other day ... started well before dawn this morning and still going. Fuck this. And MyLarry has to drive to Pocatello tonight.

From Ogden, thats usually a couple hour drive, how long did it take him? (I think I would rather stay on 15 then go to Logon in these conditions and I see you are due for more this morning) (Lake effect depths??)

(our closest shopping place is Klamath Falls, Oregon (where the potties are going to shit) and thats almost 60 miles each way. Actually the closest market is Jocks in Tulelake, California 28 miles from where I am sitting. The snow doesn't get real deep here (we are in the rain shadow of Mount Shasta) but it's a cold stretch of road out there (8 at this time)

Funny how I look at the gerlach webcam and I can see white off in the distance, (I think it looked blue a week ago) as mentioned above our camping spot is under water/snow at this time.

Think maybe I will drive over to Gerlach and get some winter pictures...

I haven't talked to him yet, but it would have been a straight shot up I-15. The truck is govenored at 65, so three hours in optimal conditions.

We had a foot of snow in the driveway, more this morning, and the standing snow in the yard is three and four feet in some places where it got shoveled into mounds. Really pretty, but I'm not going outdoors.

I was raised a Mormon, so "be prepared" is in my blood; our pantry is stocked and there's firewood next to the garage. And candles, Larry makes candles, between them and our playa blinkies I can light the house for months if I had to. I'd run out of cat litter before anything else!

8 is cold, we're in the twenties, may get into the 30s today and melt some of this, makes for a lot of ice tomorrow morning.

Tomorrow it will be colder and mostly clear where you are, it looks like. We were warmer when the storm was here.
Livin' with the mormons for 4 years we did learn alot about stocking supplies, and I want a basement if I build a house here.

I was told, by mormons I think, that a non-practicing mormon is called Jack. A Jack Mormon. But what the hell do I know, and I should know better then to talk about something that I really know nothing about. We did get to tour the Bountiful Temple before it opened.

My impression of Mormonism

I joke because it is true. I have to tell you though, there is a really great comedy club out there called Joey B's, I always had a good time. Good crew, good people.

And Mormons are so SEXY, with their clean living and tight bodies.

Oddly, Brigham Young was the first producer of whiskey in the state. Sold it to travelers, soldiers and Gentiles.

In reality, when polygamy ended, there were a lot of wives and children who were royally screwed legally. I'm descended from one such third wife. The men had households in different towns, it was unusual for the women to live together as sister-wives as is the practice among the fundie moes these days. One well-known exception, Brigham Young had a house for himself and his "first" wife and family, all the others lived next door in the Lion House (stone lion above the door). Most of these women were young widows, the propaganda has it that he married them to protect them and give them the rights of wives. Um, okay. The original Lion House is now used for bridal receptions. Now that's wrong.

I was told that "back in the day" you could tell how many wives a man had by the number of chimineys on his house (every wife has a fireplace in her bedroom). I did find it interesting that in older area's of SLC some houses have a number of smoke stacks.

If it wasnt't for the cult thinking, I loved living there and miss the many things. Lunch at the City club.... (we have one of their napkins with a picture of the 4 mop heads framed, looks really neat)

The coldest we had was about 11 above. But we did have 35" of snow for the winter as of now. Normal for a winter is about 15". I used the snowblower for the first time in two years.

I like snow, I really do, but .....

Normally snow is gone in March, but not this year!! We still have two and a half feet of dense packed snow, with fresh stuff on it every morning. The wild birds have returned and are running us out of seed, there is nothing else open where they can get food. The geese are wandering around the snow drifts wondering where they made a wrong turn. They should have baby geese by now, but instead can't even find a decent place to nest. I keep wondering if I should put out the hummingbird feeders, they are usually back by now, and I know they would have a rough time.

I know this is a leap year, but I thought that meant only one additional day of winter, not an additional month!!!

I never cease to be amazed at how vivid a visualization I can receive from posts here. Some are fantastic visuals, some I would rather not see!!

I consider myself old, but I am in a community where the average age has me beat by about 20 years. The visual I recieved from the above post went wwaayy beyond what I wanted to see!!

I think I will have nightmares until the snow melts!!
