Tita Betty

She was not famous but her love for her family and food was.

I only met her once but it was enough to leave an impression.
She came to the United States with her family from the Philippines for a better life.
Her love lives on through her family, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends.

I feel honored to have known the women that was called Tita Betty and will remember her pioneer spirit with great fondness.
It is alot like sex,
Some people just don't get it

Mormon Church president Gordon Hinckley dies at 97

http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/ ... 63,00.html

January 29, 2008 12:00am

MORMON Church president Gordon Hinckley has died of natural causes in Salt Lake City, Utah, at 97. A church spokesman said a successor wouldn't be appointed until after the funeral.

But if tradition is followed, Thomas Monson, 81, the senior member of the church's quorum of the Twelve Apostles, will take over.

Mr Hinckley, revered as a "prophet, seer and revelator" by almost 13 million Latter-Day Saints worldwide, had served in the top job since 1995.

The church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints claims a worldwide membership of 13 million, fewer than half of which are in the US; 36 per cent of members live in Latin America and 17 per cent outside the western hemisphere.

Mr Hinckley was born on June 23, 1910, in Salt Lake City, to Bryant Strigham and Ada Bitner Hinckley.

He began his church service as a young man in Britain, and held a number of important posts.

As a member of the First Presidency, the highest governing body of the church, he had a major role in administering both the ecclesiastical and temporal affairs of the church, whose members are spread over 160 nations and territories.

He was the first church president to travel to Spain, where in 1996 he broke ground for a temple in Madrid, and to Africa, where he met thousands of Mormons in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Zimbabwe, and South Africa.

During his tenure, the church grew by more than three million members, printed the 100 millionth Book of Mormon, and underwent a huge temple-building effort, which saw him travel extensively worldwide.

Mr Hinckley was predeceased by his wife.

That's the funny thing about Mormons, I dislike the religion, but the people are really nice. Hinkley was a good guy as far as that goes. Preached tolerance, but I don't know how well that took.

On the surface I think it took. but underneath it all there is that " Ours is the only true church and the only way you can get to heaven," smugness. Which of course tends to breed intolerance. This however, is not unique to Mormons. there are other sects of Christianity that believe the same thing, as well as some non-christian religions that think that way too.

Thousands bid farewell to Palestinian leader Habash

http://www.reuters.com/article/latestCr ... SL28594506

By Suleiman al-Khalidi

AMMAN, Jan 28 (Reuters) - Thousands turned out for the burial of Palestinian Marxist leader George Habash in Jordan on Monday, chanting anti-Israeli slogans and vowing to continue the struggle for a Palestinian state.

Veteran supporters mingled with Palestinian politicians and representatives of secular and leftist Arab groups at a cemetery outside Amman to pay their respects to Habash, who died on Saturday from a heart condition.

Hailed as a hero by many Palestinians but branded a terrorist by Israel, Habash's Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) carried out a string of airline hijackings and kidnappings to publicise the Palestinian cause in the 1970s.

"No to a peaceful settlement and yes to armed struggle," supporters chanted in the Sahab cemetery east of the Jordanian capital.

They waved pictures of Habash which had the slogan: "He lived as a fighter and died a fighter for his people."

Before his burial, a religious ceremony had been held in a Greek Orthodox church where his coffin was draped in a Palestinian flag.

About 2,000 Palestinians marched through the streets of the West Bank city of Ramallah with a symbolic coffin covered with flags, pledging their loyalty to Habash.

Habash, who was in his early 80s, was born in the town of Lydda in what was then British-ruled Palestine and is now part of Israel.

He was in medical school at the American University of Beirut when war broke out in 1948 over the creation of Israel, turning his wealthy Christian family and thousands of other Palestinians into refugees.

PFLP EMERGES

Habash founded the PFLP in the late 1960s, building the group into a force in the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO), second in size to Yasser Arafat's Fatah faction.

He opposed peace deals with Israel and strongly believed in the right of Palestinian refugees displaced in 1948 to return to their homes.

The PFLP adopted the Marxist-Leninist creed of "revolutionary violence". In 1970, the PFLP destroyed three hijacked Western airliners in Jordan in front of the world's press, leading King Hussein to crack down on the guerrillas.

Laila Khaled, who was the PFLP's only female hijacker, said the group wanted to focus attention on its cause.

"Our suffering was long ignored by the world," she told Reuters.

"The main goal behind these operations was to pose a big question to the world: who are the Palestinians? At the time Palestinians were being treated merely as refugees who may need humanitarian aid," she added.

In 1976, some PFLP members were involved in the hijacking of an Air France plane to Entebbe, Uganda, where Israeli commandos stormed the plane and rescued Israeli and Jewish hostages. The PFLP disavowed the hijacking, which experts say was carried out by Wadi Haddad, a leader of a PFLP splinter group.

As a pan-Arab nationalist, Habash believed the goal of a "liberated Palestine" could only be attained when Arabs united, his wife Hilda told Reuters.

"He never lost his faith in the Arab world and always believed that the Palestinian people would only regain their full rights when the Arabs were free of tyranny and occupation and one day united as one nation," she said.

Habash stepped down as PFLP leader in 2000, handing over to Abu Ali Mustafa, who was later killed by Israel. (Writing by Suleiman al-Khalidi; Editing by Keith Weir)

Dear God, please remember the victims with grace and love. I know you are listening, let them know their lives did not go in vain, and when they return let us welcome them with love and friendship.

Nogganoodle, my thoughts are with you and your family. I wish there was something more I could say but what do you say when someone loses a parent? Words sometimes fail when you need them the most, this being one of those times.....

All of us on this earth know that there is a time to live, and that there is a time to die. Yet death is always a shock to those left behind. It is even more of a shock when Death, the Proud Brother, comes suddenly without warning. Just at sundown, a small group gathered in silent prayer, around the newly-opened grave of the beloved wife of an elderly man. Sundown of the day; yet also the sundown of the old man's heart, for the shadows of grief clouded his very reason... The funeral over, the saddened group left the graveside. It was when the gravediggers started their task that strange things began to take place.

This morning on his way to work, my downstairs neighbor died.
He was only 43.
The police first found his motorcycle alonside the road, then his body in the ravine.
They determined at the scene no trauma from the accident had taken place or caused the wreck.
The autopsy came back as an "undetermined" cause of death.
I suspect that an anurism happened, but wouldn't the autopsy figure that out ? WTF !!!!
He left behind a wife and an 11 year old daughter who rent the basement downstairs, we live upstairs.
They will never know why, and not having closure will be thier burden to bare.
He had only been working there for 5 1/2 weeks, and had no insuranse yet.
He had been "appointed " this job by the state because of the new rules when recieving unemployment.
The commute was over 80 miles from our house. Way to go, State of Washington.
Another system has failed again.
Now his wife is stuck with the funeral bills.

He was a good dude, and I am tearing up now because life can be so unfair sometimes to those who are trying to do the right thing for thier families.
He was a great neighbor, and helped me with several projects including my flamethrower and artcar.

R.I.P. Mike, your friends and family will always love you.
