Village or Camp ranger?

Post by bdeywoo » Fri Feb 08, 2008 10:11 am
- SAFETY: Consider getting a few of the camp or village members to be trained as Village Rangers. As their primary area of responsibility is their camp or village, they require only brief training. Having someone who is a part of the camp or village who is a Ranger is obviously beneficial in the event of a problem in your camp
Found that in the theme camp tips section, had not noticed it before.

We are not a village but are a theme camp. Has anyone become a village ranger before? What kind of training and time commitments are there?

I've searched around on the site for more info but have only found an email address and at this point i dont want to bother them for details.

Anyone shed any light on this process?

There isn't any training to be one, aside from life experience. It's just recommended that there be someone mature/sober/knowledgeable enough to properly deal with an unpleasant situation should the need arise. A camp "mommy" if you will.

Awe and here i though i could get some kind of cool patch to designate me as important around camp. Well if we change the job description to semi-sober i'd fit the bill!

Thanks for the replies,

You still can get such a patch:

Louise and I have had them embroider amateur radio patches, burning man patches, and all sorts of stuff. Because we order very small lots (two patches, for example), the price is higher per patch, but they'll give you a quote if you give dimensions and what you want. Text and art, it's all computerized so you can get what you want.

It'd be worth making up a batch of BURNING MAN CAMP BOSS patches, just so you could visit other camps and start some drama.
I thought about Specialist Patches for LabWerks camp last year- Science Officer, Chief Engineer, and so on a la' Star Trek- Could be a fun design project.

It doesn't have to be patches. I usually print off a bunch of ID badges on paper and put them in the ID badge holders. My problem is, I forget I'm wearing them, but people take them seriously and I end up having authority without having any responsibility. I stopped wearing my official photographer badge because I was afraid people were giving me permission based on false assumptions.

Burners are really amazing people, and while I'm very willing to prank on them every instant, I don't want to actively mislead them into thinking I'm somebody I'm not.

However, I have no objection to whatever anyone else wants to do, and I've been well and truly fooled myself by pranksters. "Let the fools fall where they may" applies to me, too.
