check the census on the BM site. If you are 16 then you are going to have to wait 15+ years before you and your peers are the plurality at BM. The crowd is older than yer average music fest.in a good 5 years, My age group will be the majority of the people attending BM.
New to BM
I've heard adults say the same thing, or at least suggest that's all that happens there. Immaturity has no age limit.NickV wrote:Iv heard kids in my school talking about it and how there gonna go and get sooo drunk and high and theres gonna be tons of naked chicks
Next time they say that, remind them that for every naked chick there's half a dozen naked dudes.

Yeah, I was telling one of my friends about BM yesterday and she wants go with me...but this other girl overheard and said: "but, Isn't it like basically just an excuse for a bunch of people to drop acid?"NickV wrote:Iv heard kids in my school talking about it and how there gonna go and get sooo drunk and high and theres gonna be tons of naked chicks
Granted I know it happens, but I think it goes so much beyond that. I may be wrong I'll find out when I go...but I was sort of angry at her for making assumptions.

I really want to drive. I've been wanting to go on a road trip with the ladies for ages now...and I think it would be really fun. Boring at times I'm sure, but a good time all-in-all. You know?NickV wrote:Ill be driving from Guelpgh Ontario, Its about a day and half straight drive no sleeping. I live pretty much right in the middle of New Hampshire. A small...SMALL town called Wolfeboro. It's right on the lake though, with lots of mountains all around, so it's pretty. It's just damn cold this time of year. It was -40 or something crazy like that the other day (temperature including wind chill, but still...)

Licentious Queen, its more than just an acid party, only if you make it more than that. its what ever you make. it be it could be a reason to live, a reason to die ,it could be a celerbration of ones life, or a new look on life its self.
i feel that you should not act like you KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT when YOU YOUR SELF HAVE NEVER BEEN THERE. maybe you should wate untill your 18. who knows if this experiance, at 16, will produce a mature out look on life. it could produce the oppsite effect.
love everyone

...There's a lot that I regret not stopping and investigating on the way out to BRC. Eventually I'd like to take most of a week to go, stopping at Crazy Horse/Rushmore, Wall Drug, SLC, (the Tabernacle Mothership kinda looks like Krypton!) and lots of eccentric art, souvenir stands and rockhopping opportunities....we didn't even stop in Empire/Gerlach, we were in such a mode to get Playafied!

I drove semi over old hyw 80 in the late 50s. The trucks only had three hundred horse. Didn't go very fast loaded. But that way you got to see the country. Then a few years back I hoped a plane to Main with my camp on my back. Where I rented a car. From there into Canada Then down to Vicksberg Mich. (family). Swung up into Wisc. (old home stead Reedsberg). Down int Io. (more family). Then along the path of old hwy 80. Some of it can still be seen. Anyway through Little America and into Salt Lake city. Then I turned north for Or. and home. It had been a number of years (again) that I had been in south east Or. The (view) drive through was as stuning as the first time I saw it in the 50s. Then on home to my kids in Salem. It had been 11 camps and two weeks of retraceing some of my life. At the time I was going blind and didn't know if it could be stoped. The next year I went to BM. The Jan. after that I got my eyes fixed. Now I spend a lot of time getting ready for BM. There are some happy times in this trip, along with sad, scary and some romamtic. I'm sorry that I didn't ride the motor bike on this trip. Sold the bike now. Still have the old Harley cap with the "white bill". It hangs over my table saw in the shop. That old cap could tell some storys by it's self. We talk now and then. Mostly about the weather...................
I'm the contraptioneer your mother warned you about.
2 Licentious Queen, and all around i am sorry for jumping to conclusions. i was just saying that who know if this would be a good experiance for them at 16, who knows if they'll pull out the right form wrong. there is alot that goes on, if you all know what i mean. i was not trying to be an ass.

hmmmmmm. I feel sort of sad now...but thank you everyone for your nice comments. And I absolutely except your apology. I feel a little jumped at, but hey(!), that's all right because everybody is the better for it now.
I have been taking everyone's comments into consideration (and in depth)...and I have decided not to go to Burning Man this year. Not because I think I won't be able to handle it (which I very well might not, I'm sure some people 30, 80, or anywhere in between can't handle it, I like to think it depends not on age, but how you handle yourself...)but because:
1. I don't have very much money
2. My friend and I decided to drive cross country and spend time with people we don't know
3. Possibly go to some smaller burner events
4. Enjoy the beauty of America, and hopefully get a nicer outlook on it
5. Change our lives
All in all, spend less money. That's the one thing that would make my trip not possible...so...maybe next year...

Sounds like you qualify for a gift ticket for the Burningman Org. Have you applied? Someone give her the address to the free ticket questionaire.

I do have to say, L-Queen... if you feel this isn't the year then go with your gut. I've tried for years and it just never materialized. Just go with the flow... if its meant to be, it will be. Trust your gut... in all aspects of life. It's a wonderful guide if you can learn to listen. But if money is your only obstacle, then maybe check out the link. Again... if its supposed to happen, it will.

Thanks Mr. Smith, that's really thoughtful of you to think I am worthy. But alas, I'm going to stick with my decision
Have fun whoever ends up going. Hey M! Maybe this year will be it!
Thanks M. I know exactly what you're saying, and I want to say "YES! YES! I'll go!!!"...but my gut is telling me it's better to wait. I think I will be able to enjoy myself more when everybody I want to go with has the $ and can enjoy themselves without completely stressing themselves and everyone else out. Also, my friend and I already have alternate plans that are going to be a bit more laid-back (I think) as we want to travel about the country staying in hostels and such. Just meeting people and discovering. Similar to an experiance at BM (yes?) but less directed.LaChatNoir wrote:http://tickets.burningman.com/info.php?sid=&e

there are a lot of young kids who like to tell everyone how mature they are. it's rare that their actions actually match their words. congrats for being one of the few.
(which doesn't mean that i don't think that you should go, only that your reasoning behind it is grounded, and that you've found other experiences with as great potential to engage in until you can go. there are people twice yer age who haven't figgered that out...)
