That's not too far off the mark on that one. I loved the K2 image, thanks Fishy. And Toolmaker, that is one of the best avatars on the eplaya, ever! The survival link was interesting too!

IMPO a great thread is one that everyone can participate in.
For me if it is a topic that warrants a little bit of something interesting from everyone I click it just to see what the responses are gonna be.
Plus I love creating threads that everyone can participate in.

for me it is the sass factor. one can always count on the Fish for a sassy ass comment or four, which is why any thread started by said underwater dweller is bound to draw my attention.

that goes double for the Badger, of course. there used to be quite a few sarcastic fuckers on here, don't see them around too much any more (Rob) and I miss their ilk.

but its loving sass, you know, the good kind. not the mean spirited kind. the grow the fuck up kind. ah yes, good times...

oh yeah, and the games. i like the games, the games are good. they make for strange poetic surrealism, and wordy smithness, and that is always good for me

thanks for askin!

Most threads end up like some hopeless wino, mumbling and panhandling on the sidewalk - ignored by passers-by. Ah, but in their youth...

Some start out great or find something of brilliance in their prime.
I like threads that challenge the eplayans or hit some raw sense of actual emotion.
Dick's Bible Trivia thread was great because it had Dick stoking it with wit, humor and great pictures.... not to mention a character like Donna.
I sort of liked the old Jaded redneck thread til some troll fucked it up. It was the sort of thread that carried that sense of manic immersion that actually happens on the real playa.
The "Why are you an Atheist" thread was interesting for asking the unanswerable and inspiring some heated arguments.

Although bad arguments with no restraint or just plain pissiness seems to be the bane of the eplaya.

I wouldn't want to have anything to do with any thread that has me in it.

A good thread keeps itself alive based on content, banter, wit and other great tasting ingredients.

unfortunately, by avoiding those with posts from most of the people in this one, and concentrating on ones that people have little social investment in.

its that second part thats tragic, because it means i no longer want to be part of others community.

Sometime is difficult to judge a thread by its cover!

But sometime someone important is listening like when you post things that are important to the event.

We can change!

I know the threads on why do you volunteer when so much money is being made. Sure it can piss off some of the volunteers, but someone else is reading them! They heard and they made a change!

Like why volunteer when they are charging $500 at the gate. With that much money they can go and hire some Mexicans and you can spend more time enjoying the event after all you paid for the right to!

The problem was not the volunteers but that charging $500 at the gate did nothing to slow down or prevent the problems that it causes to the event. And it only allowed a certain segment of our society to take advantage of the offer, not the kind of people that makes this event.

It was exclusionary!

The intended effect had an impact! What a lot of us wanted to happen for many years- To close the gates to tickets sales and slow down the associated growth is now over.

Sadly, some people or volunteers didn't get the metaphorical message but the literal message. I’m sorry, but that’s your incompetence, not mine!

You will get over it, I know that I had. I have volunteered and will do so again.

Hey, and I didn't even have to prematurely Burn the Man to make my point: I just spoke out!

After being sent an email blitz this morning disclosing the extravagant and in some cases downright baffling expenditures of Hillary's campaign, I'm calling her fitness to lead into question. That party switch has a higher chance of happening this morning than it did yesterday. $95K on deli party trays alone for one night? Please.

I believe most good threads creep from their intended route to whatever is natural. some evolve into thousands of pages of conversation - while others die in 4 or 5 posts.

I no longer really remember the thread in question, but I think it was some sort of technical stuff, that was way above my comprehension. I think I cited it as a thread that was perfectly legitemate (there are some real nasty threads that need to sink to the bottom imho) and are wonderful for people in that particular world, but wasn't going to make much sence to me until they drifted off topic.

So what i was trying to say, was if you thought it was a good thread, then it was a good thread. but if it ever drifted to be interesting to me, I'd likely never know, cause I was no longer looking.

Im posting less here on ePlaya (roar of approval from the crowd) because my sense of humor (as limited as it is) may just be too darn dry. I was kidding about the NuVinci thread. Just as I was kidding in that thread about talking about Cryptofishy after she left the room.

Oh well.

Oh yeah, GlitteringCLit called me a racisist because I reluctantly predicted McCain would beat Obama. I guess in order to preserve that good old feeling I've carried with me ever since the 2005 Burn, I just need to keep it real and stay off these boards.
