RV's delivered to the playa

Post by wedeliver » Mon Feb 25, 2008 9:55 am

El Monte RV has finally recognized that Burners are really cool.. So they have now included info for burners on their web site.

El Monte RV will provide a 2008 Fleetwood Bounder 35E for your Burning Man Accommodations, delivered to you at Black Rock City on Tuesday 8/26, Wednesday 8/27 or Thursday 8/28. Our driver will drive, park, and set up your motorhome at the camp you have reserved and will return on the day you designate (Sunday 8/31/08 or Monday 9/1/08) to retrieve it. For transportation from Reno to BRC of your party in the motorhome during it's delivery to BRC please see the FAQ.

Delivery and Pickup

A BRC camp location is required for delivery to BRC. We will enter BRC and drive to your camp where we will park and set up your motorhome, giving the keys to your contact person in BRC. If no contact person is available in BRC we will mail a copy of the keys to you before delivery which you can use to enter the vehicle. On day of pickup our driver will be there on the date and time your designate (Sunday 8/31/08 or Monday 9/1/08) to retrieve the motorhome. If you have opted to have your party travel back to Reno in the motorhome, our driver will take you to the Reno Wal Mart where you will arrange transportation to the Reno Airport.

Transportation to and from the Reno Airport and Black Rock City

As an option our driver can transport your party on the day of delivery to BRC from the Wal Mart near the Reno Airport at 2863 Northtowne Ln, Reno, NV 89512. You must arrange transportation from the Reno Airport to the Wal Mart, arriving before 2:00 PM. Note that drive times to BRC from Reno are between 3 and 4 hours. You will have a limited amount of time to shop at the Wal Mart before departure to BRC. On your day of return our driver will pickup the motorhome and transport your party back the the Reno Wal Mart. You will arrange transportation to the Reno Airport. Drive times from BRC to Reno can be from 4 to 8 hours depending on traffic conditions exiting BRC. Early morning departures from BRC provide the best guarantee of the shortest trip from BRC to Reno. Be sure to plan your flight departures and arrival's around these times. Other transportation options are available.

Thanks, but I never claimed to be all that smart... I'm not sure what it means, but an old story I recall went something like this.

An American Indian is sitting on the side of the road selling hand made pottery. A man stops and is looking at some bowls when he asked the Indian.. "I see 2 bowls here and they both look the same, yet one is priced at $10.00 and the other is priced at $20.00.. why?" The Indian replies, "some people like to pay $10.00 some people like to pay $20.00".

I am sure there is a moral here, but zip right over my head. I did not look at the prices for the RV's but I betcha someone is gonna use it. At BRC I have for years thought more people come from El Monte then anywhere else.

Yearly we see posts where folks are told not to tell any rental companies that you are going to BRC. They might jack the cleaning deposit some but I could also see the rental companies fighting for our business. I think a weekly rental for class A can be anywere from $1500 to $4000.

Finally, my note to anyone reading this who wishs to rent an RV for the burn, I recommend you make your deal now. And when you get to the Playa, do not put out the Awning... you'll lose it.

I priced out and reserved a 32' Bus type RV from El Monte last year. While I later changed my mind about wanting or needing it, I did find out that it was going to cost roughly 5000 bucks (if you include fuel) for the 2 weeks I would have needed it. The idea of having an enclosed kitchen and shower was not quite that appealing so I ultimately canceled the reservation. I canceled by phone and was told that it was all taken care of, yet I still received a phone call on the previously scheduled pick up day to see when we were coming to get it.
A plan is what you vary from.

Destiny Lounge 3D will be at Bradbury and 3:15 this year as a part of the 404: Village Not Found group of camps! Come see us!

Barbie.....
would that be 3 days of professional dancing or the "pretty" girl thinking shes hot type dancing... LOL.. remember our conversation about that...
and if I open my own beers do I get to dance naked..??

from what I have found out, most Class C, 28' (+/-) will go for around $170 p/day if not too close to Reno, Sacto, SF... there is a very limited amount of daily mileage allowed and figure you'll loose your cleaning deposit... also most only give you 2-4 hrs of generator time and you'll pay p/hour after that...

if you are going in a small group then it's really not as costly as you may believe considering the conveniences and space....
think big and dare to fail

I can see some people maybe paying that much but personally I would rather spend that money on some cool art project.

RV rentals:

We have rented RV's from _________ the last 4 years and have rented one for this year. When you have a bunch of stuff to haul and you can cram it all in the RV, 600 miles to drive, it can be a practical alternative.

Delivered to the playa: why? that makes just that much more total driving......

btw: we have always gotten our cleaning deposit back, and even last year and this year when the company started charging a "burner cleaning fee", we were not charged that.

Pick a good company, treat the equipment like it was your own or your mother's. Cover the upholstery with blankets. Don't "party" in it, keep it closed up. When you get home spend a half day cleaning it, wash the outside twice, hose out the bins and engine compartment. You will get your deposit back and be remembered next year.
