"I have assorted BM bills"
Me too... the airplane bill, the mini van rental bill, the cost of the ticket bill....
But joking aside... anyone out there have any vector art of the Man?
Or any suggestions of where I should post a request for it?
Thanks!

BitterDan....
Very nice work!
I was looking for a B&W vector piece of art that I was going to place in an oval shape similar as the shape found on a dollar bill.
If you go to burning man tribe http://bm.tribe.net/?_click_path=Applic ... 74aa780%5D
there's a great shot of the man looking upward.
If you can illustrate that part, I can do the monetary boarders and other detail work... of course I'll get a copy of the final finished original art back to you. Also if it's ok with you, we can offer it to anyone who is interested in printing out some "money".

I have quite a few crisp, close-up photos of the man that I have taken over the years. If you can be a little more specific as to the type of picture you are looking for and PM me your email, I think I can get you exactly what you are looking for.accordionMan wrote:"I have assorted BM bills"

I have some very clear shots of the head only as well the entire body.
you all have sooo much talent. i can't wait to see it in person.
I have been very sheltered as far as art goes. I know that sounds strange since i am a grown woman, but it's true. For me the biggest reason for this adventure that is Burningman, is to see what I have been missing! Then go and celebrate what I have seen!!!!
we deliver- sorry about the late response. Thanks for the panty idea...
very cute.

Let's see them. I found a nice shot looking up at the man but it seems very complex to draw. Post some of your shots and maybe I'll have a better angle.I have quite a few crisp, close-up photos of the man that I have taken over the years. Newbie here, who understands how gifting works, but wants to make sure our gifts are appropriate and useful. We're thinking about gifting; juice boxes, decorated bic lighters, homemade gorp/trail mix (in reuseable ziplock bags.)
How does this sound?

Sounds MOOPy to me. Juice Boxes, no. Those things will end up all over the place as you hand them out to people who just don't care about Leave-No-Trace. Lighters, ok those are a little better and less likely to tossed. I wouldn't do trail mix/gorp unless you want the health department to come inspect and possibly fine you for unsanitary food service conditions.anairo wrote:Newbie here, who understands how gifting works, but wants to make sure our gifts are appropriate and useful. I wouldn't bring anything to gift if I were you. You (and we) are much better off with you simply offering your time to help the event out or help out random people in the city. There is no requirement nor expectation for you to give something out as a gift, that is the biggest misconception about this gift economy. If you are going to bring something, bring something hand-made and interesting or just gift your time on the playa. Think things that people will want to keep and not just leave on the playa for someone else to clean up. We don't want any chinese import 25 cent junk items for sure (unless they REALLY stood out as something interesting and keepable). Seriously, just bring yourself newbie forget the gifts this year. If you really think BM is your kind of place then you'll have a much better idea about what to bring next year.

Nicely stated.
Hmm...you've given me a lot to think about, so on that note, I'll just stick to decorated bic lighters. I really do like the idea of gifting with homemade goods (trail mix, brownies, cookies, etc -> I love to cook) but if doing so will raise questions, it'll prove to be more of grimace than a gift.
But...I'm split on the juice boxes;
Pros:
-Rehydrating (and hence appreciated). Packs flat for recycling.
Cons
-Potential MOOP.

If you really want to gift juice then just get a health dept permit and serve juice to people who have their own cup. Everybody has their own cup (ok, some newbies just don't get that part so they show up with no cup and then you turn them away). I would NOT go with juice boxes. I am telling you right now that they will end up on the playa as trash for someone else to have to clean up. Don't do it or I will set your tent on fire.
You'll find that most of us burners are very conscious about MOOP, especially if we KNOW where it came from. If I saw your MOOP-boxes laying on the ground as trash, I'd probably come relieve you of the rest of your juice boxes right before I set your tent on fire.

:::nervously looks around::::
Uh, alright, I get it: no juice boxes. Sheesh...However don't you think its gonna be kinda hard to torch the tent that belongs to the girl carrying a bag full of bic lighters?

In addition to being crafty with a lighter should you get to threaten her tent...yes.
And if you're willing to wait five months to find me on the playa for your own cold box of juice, you'll see for yourself.

If you hear an accordion playin' on the playa come by and say "hi!" and by the way, I wouldn't mind a box of juice... I promise I won't moop it.

Of course!
I'll be sure to keep your juice-box extra cold...and maybe I'll even throw in a homemade cookie, as well.

I doubt it. They are coated with plastic and have a foil interior. Not to mention the plastic straw.Ugly Dougly wrote:Would an empty juice box burn without putting a lot O' toxic shit in the air?
I wouldn't do it. It screams MOOP. Don't get me wrong, I love the idea and I love the thought behind it but MOOP is MOOP.

BitterDan, "Larry's Angels" kicks ass! Not to take away from your art but it would make an awesome t-shirt, it could even say Larry's Angels across the top in the old seventies tv show style...
In regards to gifting I too must confess to the sin of moopiness. Last year was my first and I went waaaaaaay overboard. The worst was these little giftbag things I made. Ostensibly they were a good idea, they each contained a glow item of some sort, and single serving size cookies or cheezits, along with a mini SlimJim. Moop producing but at least useful... The problem was I also threw in various other crap like stickers and cheaply mass produced beaded bracelets, and gag gifts like "fart candy" and candy that was really fake bugs and spiders. I sealed the bags with labels that said "Here's your fucking gift!"
In my defense, I did also give out A BOATLOAD of glow and some stuff called Mystical Fire that made fires burn green and blue, as well as booze and beer and bacon and a little of Cali's finest herbal supplement, smoking accessory included. Probably the most useful gift I gave out was to my campmate and fellow virgin Dan (Jesus). I gave him a camelback since I had scored an extra one from Craigslist. (The guy's ad said he had two brand new camelbacks, $15. I assumed this meant apiece, but when I showed up at his door, fifteen bucks in hand, he handed them both to me and said, "Have fun at Burning Man!") I ended up regifting a lot of the shwag I got the night before I left (including my bike but that was for selfish reasons) but I still came back with a few treasured items, an excellent fuzzy scarf made for Burners by the gifter's grandmother, my Burning Man "press pass" laminate, a small knife from '06 that has the man and "Hope and Fear" on one side and "The happiest place on earth" on the other, and a large piece of Black Rock I found in the middle of the road. I also found a really cool keychain while I was drunkenly mooping my way back to camp one night. Hugs and conversation are some of the greatest gifts... whether you're giving or receiving.
This year I'm strapped for cash so I'm mostly gifting my time to the community through volunteer work and maybe some performance art, but I still plan to bring a few special things for those special people.
In conclusion, a juicebox could be a great gift provided you didn't just pass them out at random. Here's an idea; when you see someone coming down your street picking up moop along the way while others around him/her are stepping over and around it, offer that person a cold juicebox, and maybe let him/her use your trashbag to dump the handful of other peoples trash he/she will be holding. And if I come across a juicebox while I'm combing the desert after it's all over I won't mind because I'll know it was accidental.

..how 'bout those people who come with a shitload of mardi gras beads and really think you want them?
oh thanks but i'll just take a hug, and then slap them in the ass?
hey, I think those little sized sharpies with the necklace ring could be both cool and useful for when your buddies pass out!
nah, fuck it. I'm just gettin' some mardi gras beads.
