I want to share accomodations (willing to pay)
First time at BM. Couldn't convince ANYONE to come with me (year after year - To hell with them...I am doing it anyway!). Not sure what I need and how to do it. Figure it might be easier to rent space from someone. I will be there only 2-3 days max. I wield no ax and expunge no odors or STDs...lol
Seriously, I am 37, married, father of two, work with special needs kids and seniors (medical).
I just don't want to put it off anymore (just purchased the tickets). Even help or guidance is welcome (e.g., rent a truck, buy a tent, get bent, etc.). Read the threads but needing individual guidance/answers.
Not looking for creature comforts, but would like to come home in one piece. So, I am willing to pay you for your space, equipment, etc.
I am respectful of others and their space.
Thanks in advance

Welcome, Aminevich. Why don't you check out Stag Camp, a collection of singles/orphans of all sorts that works well.

In my opinion 2-3 days at burning man is not the best way to do it. your expenses will be somewhat the same for 3 days verses 7. I understand that you may have some schedule concerns but do what you can to get the time off so that you can spend as much time at the event as possible. Although some theme camps only come on line for the end of the event most of the art, theme camps and general scene is peaking about wednesday before the party is punched in to overdrive for the weekend. Roaming around in the new and old threads in the Q & A, Tips and Tricks section will answer a multitude of questions. Seriously! Preparation for the event takes lots of time. In general I do about 15 times more online research in to prep than the actual time it takes me to pack. When I start packing I know exactly what I need. Read the 2007 survival guide in preparation for when the 2008 guide comes out. Be ready to pay for ice and coffee only!

Even when you're part of a big theme camp, it's generally unwise to depend on anyone else to provide for you at BM. I think it'd be especially unsafe to depend on someone else to provide EVERYTHING, whether you paid or not.
It's just not the kind of place where you can rent accommodations like it was Vegas or something.
Yes, rent a truck if you can. You'll want to carry a bunch of stuff, and rental trucks are a lot easier to hose out and clean up than cars/suvs. (They get VERY dirty out on the playa, in the dust storms that come outta nowhere.)
And Motsky is absolutely right, it's a huge waste to come all the way to Black Rock City for 2 or 3 days. If you can make the time, you'll be very glad you did. If I had the choice of coming for two days or not coming at all, I'm not sure what I'd do...

just wondering!
it's gonna be my first burn as well and i want to come alone to be open and available to meet everybody.
I'm just a little worried: i have no drivers license and can only take 20 kilo in the plane (which is my tent, sleeping bag, skateboard and some wicked dutch parfanalia!). I'm camping at Greeters Camp, they take care of my water, but what baout food and stoves? Do they sell campinggaz in america? I'm from holland and used to be self sufficient, but cannot take it all and well any advice? wasn't there a website also to find people to share rides with? must hitchhike from SF to BM and want to arrive early to check out the playa to be a "GOOD" greeter.
thanks already

pafanalia? As in paraphanalia? As in, smoking? Dear heart, even that's illegal in Nevada. Rethink that portion of your packing, please, I would hate to have you miss the event because you did not understand American laws. It won't get past customs.
Yes, I'm the devil's advocate pointing out worst case scenarios, it is what I do.

Some people do camp here and there and are quite comfortable.
There was a hammock camp last year with a public place you could sleep.
You should come for the first part of the week.
Camping gear is available at a number of places.
See the lists somewhere on here.
For special things, you might be able to mail order and pick up at one of your stops, including Gerlach.
Be sure you have comfortable goggles.

yeah i'll pack my snowboard goggles for a trip to the dessert or trust on the experience i had in the maroccan part of the sahara! But the goggles glasses are yellow, gives a little light in these storms!
You devil. i´m thinking about windmills and tulips! I hate rules and cops, so will try to do as much is i can to keep them far away from me!
I have hammocks as well, but will bring my tent. For the rest we´ll see.
