That 1 Guy at Burning Man?
Hey, I like beatin' up on clueless newbs as much as the next person, probably more now that I think about it, but I was surprised at the amount of ignorance on display here. I think it would behoove all of us to remember what's most important about Burningman: that Sensei has a rockin' good time out there.
If we can all focus on this I think it'll be a good year.
Thank you and good night!

Yeah I sound pretentious. But it's how I feel...musicians are used to having Minions do their bidding. At BM, no one seems to act like they require minions. At least not from what I've seen.
And it sets a totally different tone to the event.
Maybe I just need my own minions, then I won't worry about others.

We 'll just have to not let him know that I will also be making dookie in it and also there is a crack in the bottom of the bucket,
he will have to empty those "disposable" bags into the JOTS and then throw them away.
Don't worry Sensei,
it's pretty easy it you just hold the bag and poke holes in it with a knife and then shake it till it's empty.....unless there are solids...........
Fishy--------------
I will be attempting to modify that shitty little seat that is on top of the poto thingy into a regular white plastic johhny-ring tomorrow,
unless shit changes or crap gets all out of hand.
(keep the turd jokes coming in this thread please)
BTW------------
I have seen That 1 Guy and I must have had crappy seats.......or maybe I wasn't shitfaced enough to enjoy his talents ?

Let me give a summary of what is below: That 1 Guy isn't going to go to the BM and expect to be a shining star and have his helpers follow him and feed him grapes. Quite making that assumption, he is going to be an equal to everyone.
Nearly everyone has been making this assumption, even the people who I assume have been to the BM for many many years.
That 1 Guy has no intention of showing up and having his minions set up his stuff, then leaving directly after the performance. Stop making that assumption. I have talked to Mike Silverman (That 1 Guy) before, and not just during a shirt signing. He is a cool guy. I have never seen him let anyone else set up his stuff, nor do I think it is even possible with the complexity of his magic pipe. Sure, he has helpers, (minions is a very demeaning term, fellows) and they help him. THAT is the life of a musician on tour. I would think it would be hard enough living of little to nothing money, but having to travel to the next stage is difficult, and helpers are needed. If they were not there, then it would be impossible to go what the artist does-- playing music to make people happy. That is a generous thing to do, and if you feel bad paying to see a concert, or allowing the artist to survive and do what he loves to do, then that is a selfish act. (this only applies if you like the artist, sure you can not see them, thats your choice, but you shouldn't expect that he should have to provide to you for free, he needs to eat too, would you give away all your food so you starve to death?) Also keep in mind, his helpers are his friends, do you expect the artist to travel alone with no friends for company?
HOWEVER, if Mike Silverman (That 1 Guy) were to go to the Burning Man, he is not going to go with the attitude that he is a shining star and you are all his fans. He is going to go with the same attitude he always has-- He loves to play music, and make people happy. He is going to play, and then stay the whole man, and hang out and have a rocking time like everyone else, as an equal.
Also, he is going to ultimately make going to the BM happen, not his helpers. I am a fan of his, and I think it would be nice to hear him at the BM, since I wont be able to make it to his concerts this summer since I will be rafting down the Mississippi River. I don't see a harm in finding him an email to contact about finding a stage, since I want to see him play.
And to some of you out there, ying-yang.

Jeez what a mudbath this is turning into!
What myself and most others are trying to say is that BM is a place of self reliance, and most people have to bring whatever they will require.
Your original post or two did come across as though you didn't really get it about Burning Man. It's very unusual for anyone to ask for a venue, or anything, to be fully provided for them. That's what set off the alarms to many of us.
No one's trying to be mean or talk down to you or discourage you from providing something cool. We just want to be sure you understand what kind of place it is.
There is always Center Camp, and it sounds like it'd be great to have him play there.
Hopefully it does work out, your friend would be great to have.

I'm very sorry to hear that rafting down the Mississippi isn't what it used to be and it's own damn good reason to miss all sorts of other stuff. Life is short and you can't do everything, try to do the things that matter.

If you wanna gift people with your dj talents...you bring it, and your power source. I recommend a good generator and back up hoses and filters.
You will want to have a pretty airtight tent or box truck to keep the equipment safe when not in use.
You will at times prolly get stuck out there during a major silt storm, be prepared to write stuff that gets ruined, off.... so you wont be mad, cause its the badlands bud'dy!
Be prepared for:
Rain, Pure 100% Silt rushing through you at 100MPH, hottest Sun this side of Death Valley,Rain, theft(yup it happens) or all of the above at the same time!
Oh and Burningman, doesnt persay like the term STAGE.
And if your not interested in bringing all your equipment. Come be on this side of the spinnin disk, and dance! Be a participant!
Oh forgot this one thing....
Dj's get kinda harshed on....not that we dont absolutely love what you bring to the party....its just that of the 50K peeps that go to Burningman.....HALF of them are wanna be DJ's!
If Mick Jager walked into our bar... I wouldnt ask him for his autograph or for him to sing me a song.
I'd ask him "What will it be Mick?" And pour the man a drink.
Man O Man! I guess either I wrote that too strange for peeps to understand or I wrote it wrong?
What I must try to break down so I dont seem like a Rusty veteran...I aint.
All I was trying to do was give our newbie some guideance....
a list of his needs as far as performing
a list of the harseness of weather conditions
the wanna-be dj comment was directed to the "other" peeps that have come in here a couple time in the last couple yrs saying, hey I think I wanna be a dj and play for you all at BM....please give me a stage to set up on...
and does anyone have a mixer board and btw i dont have generator can I use yours>? Oh, I didnt bring gasoline.
Oh and does anyone have a mic I can use, mines shorting out....
those examples...
Im sure that given the comments that this "one Guy" is a good DJ.
I think his best bet, would be to follow the newer posts to find an established Deeper End (just an example) type theme camp, and see if he can rotate in and out of sets with other dj's...they can condence their
"To bring" list and have less to haul out there. Simplicity.
Working together to bring a wonderful thing to the playa peeps.
Example:
we like to bartend...we have met 29 other people who like to too! So we put all of our alcohol contributions and infrastructure together! less burden on one person, but a family of together working towards a common GIFT! get it?
I wasnt saying dont go, just was giving help on the what you will face if trying to do it alone. ALOT!
I did have to laff at ...whomevers post it was that said Musicians like to just get there walk on stage do their thing and leave to let someone else break it down.....
Sorry thats true in so many cases...I was married to one once!
and he was SOOOOO like that! Hahahahahahahaha
That 1 guy,
Im sure you will find what your looking for on either this forum or others like it pertaining to BM.
It helps being in a team!
Names pinemom, but my friends call me "Piney".

i think you were understood by most here. at least i got you. thing is, aetherfunk felt attacked and condescended to and a few others stood up for him instead of tryin' to learn him correct through trial of fire. we weren't pickin' on him. he wasn't listening.
opinion: noobs shouldn't be making coordinated efforts to pull off "large" events in a city where they don't yet know the language.
this is the bottom line for me and any resistance to that usually comes from someone thinking it's "burnier than thou" or someone who has some sort of issue with authority.
one of these next posts is liable to have another 'veteran' calling me out for being on a high horse or something.....i love everyone so i DO feel high and I also have a cock like a horse so it's all cool with me.
...now i've gotta go pull a calf out of a cow. I'm serious

geez,guys... Aetherman...Check out the Center Camp performance sign-ups....I think it starts end of April, and fills quickly - he'll need to bring keyboards and connectors/cords, but they've got a great set up....for his first year out, he'll get his feet *wet*, maybe get invited to other stages with set-ups, also keep an eye on Stages seeking Performers - as we get closer, several camps will invite/advertise their space - many bring amps, speakers and boards - you just bring your *axe* and plug in.....

he is a great musician, it would be cool to see him perform at BM. If he brings his own equipment he can do it himself, otherwise he should go, and chill during the beginning of the week and make some friends, and if allah is on his side he will be able to perform. Why not on the main stage? I would love to roll in there at 4 in the morning and lay down and let him take me on a journey. At the very least he will get the BM experience, and we'll see him there next year with his own shit!
