Last year was so warm at night, so if you are relying on a fancy warm fake fur coat for night-wear shenanigans, you should also consider a backup plan for lighter splashin' fashions, in case the temp is high.

I had more than one costume nightmare last year and ended up in the fashion police slammer come morning, not to worry they have great coffee. But you can't learn if you don't try, and Burning Man is a great place to try it all. You really can't go wrong... seriously.

Just have fun, be creative, and try not to spend all your money on costumes.

When in doubt, wear garbage.

I have to travel light since I either fly with my stuff... or ship it in advance.

What works for me is HATS!

I have one hat with lots of mirrors glued all over it... during the day it looks like a disco ball reflecting light all over the playa.

At night I have a hat with tons of blinky lights.

It's great for safety reasons... and it looks sooooo cool.

Sometimes at night when I stop to stare at the sky or the city in the distance, I find people riding their bikes over to me... they think I'm an art installation. The lights are rigged so I can change hats if it gets really cold at night.

I am starting to worry about the amount of clothing I am planning on taking. It has already started filling up the bottom of my downstairs closet. Whoops!

I recommend bringing a parasol or umbrella as well for the daytime. It really helps cut down on the sun.

all night and into the day. only wore my fuzzy long coat maybe two times out in the deep. topless and loincloth at dawn and I get cold easy...I surely found the nights were warm.

To anyone who says don't worry about looking cool: Comfort is paramount but for me, when I open up my playa trunk and the dust poofs out and that sweet salty mischievous aroma mixed with the buckskin suede leather smell of my basic playa gear, goggles, bandanas and bag o' gifts given to me it's like putting on my playa persona and damn right it looks cool. I've been wearing it since the Floating World and haven't found a replacement. comfy & look cool+feel cool=coolcool?

I'm not one who has different "costumes", just day/night modifications to one(gartered adjustable leather leggins) and a big warm jacket. COMFORTABLE BOOTS ROCK and are a must.

I learned that the hard way. My virgin year I bought a new pair of Doc's about a week before the burn. Which is not nearly enough time to break them in. I took them down anyway. They were my only pair of shoes. I didn't bring a bike. My feet were torn up by the end of the week. It was brutal. So don't make that mistake.

Costumes are fun and if you show up without some you might just regret it. I plan costume all year round. I am not extravagant as some, but I really love to make stuff. Check out thrift stores or fabric stores. Furry stuff is always fun. Go to your local party cities for fun accessories and check out eBay. Just make sure your costume won't fall apart and leave moop for others to clean up. I would stay away from feathers and glitter. Just throw random, horrendous clothing pieces together! Whatever goes!!

Get the biggest fan you can find, turn it on full blast and put yer stuff in front of it.
If you can get access to a wind tunnel, all the better, or one of those huge fans they use for stage/movie production...

Hey, what if you got maybe three box fans and put 'em one in front of the other, would that makea bigger wind?
