There's been that talk of animal slaughter again. Why not go the fucking way and have a human abortion performed? That'll get some participation happening, won't it.

Why nor perform PSA checks and mammograms done out on the open playa as well, with publicized results

Shit, do I have to? I mean, fucking is a damn lot of work these days, and I don't know that I want to fuck everyone here. In theory, sure, but do I actually have to fuck every individual eplayan? Can we just get this over and done with as a group thing? If so, plaese note I prefer "Sex Grease" as a lube. All natural, no preservatives.

3playa is a textbook case of what happens when a bunch of really cool people (perhaps former high school geeks) make their own society--and it turns out to be as snotty and inward facing and as rulebound as the one it replaced. If not more so.

Precipitated by DVD Burner's obsessive and interruptive 1000+ posts in span of several weeks in which he said nothing and would take no clue - no hint - from either the community members or the moderators requests to cease and desist.

That's when a good number of folks bailed. Because really, sometimes it only takes a single idiot to foul the pool.

BTW, an interesting take on the 3playa Crypto. Though uniquely your opinion I'd hardly call it 'textbook.' Blemished as it is at least there are mechanisms in place where spamming doesn't take place and the baying of idiots and sociopaths last only a few days before they're ignored completely - or made practice for creative ridicule.

For everyone else it's sink or swim based on the merits of your posts. Hardly anything more.

I've looked at 3playa a few times, and I find it's format isn't nearly as easy to use as eplaya's php setup.

The 3Playa is just another online extension of the BM experience.

The code Trey created IMHO was brilliantly written in it's day but it was not made available for anyone else to purchase and to expand upon which is a shame. It's been left to languish when it could have been a catalyst for something much better...instead it's just sitting there...

It does carry a bit of a West Coast bias that can be interesting to read at times...annoying at others.

In their effort to not offend the community the current admin situation works at a speed barely above paralysis....they should have implemented IP tracking of logins YEARS ago and been done with it. Plonk took forever to implement and then it only got coded in when everyone finally got pushed to act. The current state of affairs with letting "Marci" run amuk shows another case of paralysis that the group should take a stand on and say enough. Instead they turn on plonk and let the rants continue....which only emboldens the sorry son of a bitch to carry on....stalking people like Zane and even giving ActionGrl flak that is unwarranted and on most other types of online forums would not be tolerated...

Beyond that...for me at least it's maybe a 20 minute cumulative time suck out of my day that has been quite informative and helpful over the years even if I'm persona non grata and rarely post over there. I treat it as a resource now and it works well for me.

And in regards to your post Badger, one person did not kill off this board. You can't pin the board's demise on DVD, yourself, me, or anyone in particular. The blame if any is to be assessed should be spread around. My spat with you alienated many, the DVD smilies and random posts pissed off others...but having 6 weeks of down time not to mention getting shanghaied with the format change while people were at the event and came home to a "what the fuck is this bullshit" experience certainly didn't help things.

Eplaya has been an education for me in online php board communication, and it's mostly been a good experience, even the hateful stuff. I really do think it should be distilled to its better content and published in book form, monies generated to help Burners Without Boarders or something like that.
Ophra might promote it, then Larry will step in (he's never here) and take credit and away we go................

Not relevent to my experience, because that's when I started and I just didn't have the scorecard yet, so I didn't pick up on those currents. It may have been better, but the mythical past is always better so I don't tend to trust nostalgia.

I sank on my connection with Joseph Pred--i.e. being married to a member of IIIs traditional enemy's department. Being taken aside at Pie Guy's workshop by Tiara in order to be told like a six-year-old that showing "solidarity" with Pred was not advised (let alone that she has no idea who I was actually showing solidarity with) was just so creepy in an Emily Postzilla sort of way, that I never felt completely comfortable there again. FWIW, none of you showed up at Scott's service (Mozy did, and I'd never met him!), and I haven't gone through the get well cards, but I don't think that I got any from you lot then either. I know, that was after the breach.

If ya'll had made more fun of III's Predphobia it might have served him as well as me better, but then he wrote the code didn't he. The fact that half a dozen years later he was still so sore about whatever it was really adds to the inmates take over the asylum aspect of it for me.

Anyway, I'd guess this forum ebbs and flows in odd ways and that if you come in post any particular extinction event, you find the freedom of an empty playing field and then your eplaya golden age is then.

IT works for you, Badger, but you were one of the ones who was there before the beginning and your articulated comments about the flaws of this board were taken into account and you are one of the local Cheka who punishes those who get out of line. Much as I adore you seperate from your group, much as I adore many of the others in that group, it is a high school clique. From the inside you may not see that.

If you ever talk to any of the others who left that board about why you might find that they believe it has a dark underbelly as well.

I'm certainly no "core member" - whatever the hell that is - and I find it works for me. The fact that it's not for everyone also works for me. I'd never met 90% of those people before and I had no problems with feeling unwelcome. My experience there has been that one sinks or swims on one's own accord. It's definitely NOT a place for those looking for positive affirmation, which is just one way it's very different from e-playa. Another way it's different is that they're not afraid to use a clue bat on someone if they need it.

Everyone needs it now and then. We learn and move on.

Pred has his faults. I wasn't there when that shit went down, so I have to judge him by what I experienced from him, while taking into account the other things I know.

Scott Lofgren was the best thing that ever happened to me. Pred was one of his best friends and was asked to be best man at our wedding. Very few of us are such universal bastards that there is only one side to their story. And much leaving that fucking board broke my heart, it broke my heart to turn my back on all the good things Pred did for Scott and all the thing he did for me; plus that horrible betrayal of Scott that being on the board meant for me. Tahnk you for comfirming that leaving you lot of bastards behind was the right choice, Captain.

And yes, Tiara is sweet. I don't trust her as far as I can spit. She'll always come down on the side of board orthodoxy. I can even see that taking me aside like that was meant as kindness. But it was sticking a knife it my heart and it festered until I blew up at her. Sensei, you are someone I miss, but if you value my friendship I suggest that you put your mind around the idea that when she told me that, she asked me to break faith with my husband and myself. You can respect her all you want; don't ask me to.
