I call bullshit. Zona flies in out there and I'd bet you wouldn't hesitate to consult with him on any aircraft safety questions.Bob wrote:Yeah, right. Buhrnurz are the first fucking people I want to consult on aircraft safety.
Moving past that aspect... considering the number of flight operations out there and the minimal number of reported screwups, it seems like BRC airport pilots would be good resources to consult. A couple of interesting incidents shouldn't be used to stereotype the whole group!
( I wish someone had pix of the Bonanza that looked like it was a placed art exhibit...I forget now what happened on the landing but the end result was just cool to look at out there in the walk-in camping area)

That's the Bonanza I was thinking of, thanks!
No you don't need any "mountain permits" to fly in up there but considering it's at almost 4000ft of elevation surrounded by mountain ranges and with interesting winds..well I'm no pilot but I don't think it would be considered a normal place to fly into.....

Nope. There's no such animal in the FAR's* as a "mountain flying permit." As to specialised training, it would be a very good idea and nearly all CFI's** I've ever known provided some. I fly helicopters myself until I quit for being a full-time artist and the Sectional chart I looked at for the BRC area showed a maximum elevation of around 9,000 feet for that sector - that's high enough that it should not be attempted by those without experience at those altitudes.BitterDan wrote:Don't you need mountain flying permits to fly to BRC Airport? Ah, the Bonanza! The Fork-Tailed Doctor Killer, as we used to call them!
Cheers,

Wow. Ever been in a serious car accident?Bob wrote:Yeah, right. Buhrnurz are the first fucking people I want to consult on aircraft safety.
I guess it doesn't matter. Most people haven't either, but since some people have, I guess we could say "Yeah, right, you're the first fucking person we want to consult on safety."

Near Hit?
This is called an involuntary conversion.phil wrote:Is this a Bonanza?
And I don't like it that my near collision at LAX is called a 'near miss'.
I'm not entirely comfortable with referring to landing as a 'FINAL APPROACH' either.
