I meant to say that the theme is going to be "The Vaults of Heaven" not Gates.

I heard from a pretty reliable source that the theme will be...

"Another World" (or something similar)

And will be a sort of space based theme.

There are enough Star Wars/Star Trek/Space Travel conventions and events already. I vote for a middle earth theme or some fantasy theme involving dragons, elves, scorcerers, faries.., trolls, witchcraft and other similar creatures. Besides a fire breathing dragon art car sounds like fun.. and so does a couple sets of iron stocks, pillory, whipping posts, iron cages, cat-o-nines, oops.. sorry this is a private tent the "Trip the Light Fantastic" Bar/Discotec/Electroshock treatment dome is the one over there.. Yes, the one with the sign..

The religious overtone has been greatly exaggerated I think.

Still, there are those who'll undoubtedly try to tie it in with varying degress of success - or ridicule.

BTW, the the theme is NOT about heaven/the universe in any way.

If it is "Vaults of Heaven" that seems pretty good. "Vaults of Heaven" can be interpreted as "the sky is the limit."

Whether it becomes the actual stated theme (more likely "Butterflies of Mars") it will in fact be the true theme.

Wait until the actual release of the theme comes out. I think it would be funny if people start to create things: art cars, artworks, theme camps, around the reported themes.
I'm gonna wait a couple of months to get serious about any plans. I really wouldn't mind a fantasy theme, like middle ages or some other fantasy idea. Have the streets and blocks be, instead of time, be centuries, like 500 AD, 1500 AD, and so on. Then for the cross-streets, have things like Middle-Earth, Cave, Witches' Den, Wizard's Realm, or something like that.

Just some ideas.

I think the floating world theme was so great because it was so easy to work with artisticly and so it actually seemed that everyone worked with it. I think a space theme will have a simillar result.

I just got my ticket flyer in the mail yesterday. It has space on it, w/ the man on it in the middle of drawn out planet orbits and constellations!!!

Man, I am pumped!

Another theme w/ religious overtones, but let's hope that the theme is more about Space than it is about "Heaven," even though Heaven rocks too!!!
I hope that the streets are named after the planets, with the man being the sun and the planets being the 9 planets of the solar system, orbiting around the man...if that hasn't been done in previous years.
... and the cross-streets are named after various space things...
...I got an idea: name the streets after the size of objects in space...
Atom, Being, Planet, Solar System, Galaxy, Universe...
That would kinda be cool

I can see it now...little Mars rovers on the playa...astronauts, astronomy, astrology...space men all spaced out!!

...and don't forget those space ships in the sky...whoever made those from previous years rocks. We all stopped and looked up to see that red space ship circling the sky, like Whoa!!...(probably conrolled by a remote?, and carried by a balloon?).

Things are going to be real spacey!!

"Vaults of Heaven" is also mentioned quite a bit in Greco-Roman mythology (as well as most other Euro-Russian mythos). I for one would love to see the Playa overrun with Gods & Goddesses, Satyrs & Nymphs, a few horney Goat-Men and other various Mt. Olympus creatures. Thoughts??

Current plan seems to be that the base will be something like a giant fuller dome with the Man standing on top, and multiple spaces underneath like expanded versions of the niches in the pyramid last year.

BTW, my big prediction about the effect of this year's theme: hundreds of camps called "Planet of x", just like all the Temples of x" last year.
