age
My friend and I are 17 and want to go this year, but we're curious if there is any way to get in under the age of 18. Do they really check?

Just catch a ride with someone over 18 and you shouldn't have a problem.endedcoverage wrote:My friend and I are 17 and want to go this year, but we're curious if there is any way to get in under the age of 18. Do they really check?

No, I actually wasn't being that subtle.
I mean you need a minder to keep you out of trouble.
Anyone at any age with a keeper, probably won't have trouble at the gate.
You really thought this through.
I could have probably been much funnier.
An ex that hates you?
No revenge like living well, is there?
And I thought you loved your job?

Gyre - Love the job in the field, can do without the paperwork and report writing, Hours kinda blow, and theres nothing like the phone ringing at 3AM on Wednesday letting you know your leaving for 2 months, and you need to be at the airport in 2 hours.
The ex doesn't get BM either, im just venting - been a shitty week.
see you playa side Gyre

I wouldn't risk driving all the way to BRC and sitting in 3 hours of traffic at the gate only to be turned away because you got carded. Find a friend who is over 18 to go with you or get a fake ID.endedcoverage wrote:My friend and I are 17 and want to go this year, but we're curious if there is any way to get in under the age of 18. My friend and I were both carded at the gate. She was so overjoyed though 26 and still getting carded. Mind you shes 5 foot tall and looks like she is about 12 though. I think I just got carded by association.
If you are 17 you have to know people over 21 that want to go. Offer to pitch in for their ticket and supplies if you can afford it. Also think about that as well. It is not an inexpensive experience.

go next year!!! practice. save money. work on some art. work on your patience. get better. read up. go to regionals. anticipate great things. don't try and talk anyone into escorting you. enjoy your youth. did i mention SAVE MONEY for next year.
.....that's what i have to say.
i'm not so sure you're even still around here on eplaya since you've not yet responded to these folks from the community who have given you their advice.

That wasn't the case for me last year, I didn't even bring any I.D. with me, and not one of the six people in the truck were asked for I.D. they only took our tickets and briefly poked around in our gear looking for stowaways.theCryptofishist wrote:No. All persons in the car are carded. And under 18s have to be with at least a 21-year old person.

Maybe it's a priveledge of early entry. "Are you sure you are who you say you are?"
*shrug*
At any rate, I'm okay with being wrong.
Sorta.

Not if you look like you have two mortgages, a stressful job, an ex that hates you and are escaping to BM for your allotted freedom per year?
Thats why I have never been carded.

Did anyone mention how annoying it is that Burning Man gets a bad rep because so many parents call the local sheriff and say "my kids have run away and are most likely at burning man"?
Or how about the fact of so many kids trying to get free booze at camps, that it really makes for a logical reason for the feds to send in undercover cops to check that camps are carding?
Less kids = less problems.
Not saying all kids are problems, but if you're 17 and you still live with your parents, and your parents do not know you're going to be at burning man, that's not just a problem for you and your parents, but for everyone else at this event.
Although I guess many kids do it anyways. The camp I hear they end up hanging out at the most, where they are treated very well, is a camp called Jiffy Lube. If you get your parents permission to go to BM, and have an adult with you, so that you arn't breaking any laws by attending, make sure to check out Jiffy Lube. They'll treat you right.
