and as a reply to that. It is very important to find humor in everything out there! Don't get mad at the asshole w/ the bullhorn (mentioned above)...just laugh with him while he makes fun of everyone. It will make things much more pleasant for you out there.

Haven't tried yet, or think would need to but: To prevent snakes from sliping into sleeping bag, make a circle around the bag with a thick piece of rope. Snakes don't cross over eachother, and will mistake the rope as one and go in a circle. THEN AGAIN- I've never really seen any animals in the dust. The only thing have seen was a ridicously large mutant dragonfly (looked like a humming bird :D )

There are the groundmeese or groundmoose.
They're like chipmunks with antlers.
They are shy and difficult to spot.

"As far as dry ice.
One year I bought dry ice and put it in with my block ice. Big mistake! When the block ice melted and filled my cooler with water, it evaporated the dry ice a lot faster."

Another note on dry ice:

We had large cubes of dry ice in both of our coolers last year and every piece of fruit acquired a carbonated taste. While eating our oranges I felt like I was licking a battery.. I wonder if there is a way around this.
Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.

It doesn't matter how fast the dry ice dissolves as long as the cold is transferred, unless you want to keep ice cream.
I'm not sure it matters then.
I pack dry ice in ice.
Cold is cold.

Putting fruit in bags may help.
I've never had a problem.

Remember that Co2 in a car can be a problem.
I use to make my own soft drinks and amped the Co2 up to the point that inhaling when you sipped would choke you.

Here lies Gyre
Unknown cause of death - appears to suffocated in the desert drinking a coke?

Gyre - bring some of your super fuzzy lifting drinks by our camp, well socialize more - and sorry I couldnt spend more time with you this last burn, I was running on fumes when you came by.

Unfortunately I can't transport them in a vehicle.
Just too sensitive at that pressure.

I was a little stressed last year myself.
Probably had something to do with sleeping in a working metal shop before the burn.
Slept great on the esplanade though.

It seems conversation at the event is never as relaxed as the real world anyway.
If we had a longer event, we could have both.

I still want a six week burning man.

Six Weeks! that would be incredible, but the amount of resources ti would take would be through the roof.

I always figured that if something happened weather wise that trapped us on plaay. the Nevada ANG would be dropping suipplies by day 12. any more than that and it would be total anarchy.

Back to the tips,
The playa guide is a great resource, but make sure you stop by a camp before the listed time to make sure its right. Otherwise you might miss some kick ass event due to a typo or playa change in time.

It's old cowboy folklor.. There may be some truth somewhere..

Snakes do like to get into sleeping bag with people.. The people are nice and warm.. Can't blame the snake.

The cost of the porta-johns would be prohibitive. (hee)

The rest of yahs, wanna see my TIPS?

Sweet stuff works well in temperate climates, but is icky out there. Hard candies are LIES and will fool you into thinking you're hydrated. Skip them. For snacks, think salt, spicy, savory. Dry roasted peanuts are ideal. One very common med-shack complaint is lots of participants get wrath of gawd heartburn out there, probably due to alcohol consumption and lack of fresh foods, so bring a jar of Tums.
Bring cranberry juice, drink it diluted with water out there, but drink it.
Bring regular, store brand aspirin, not tylenol, your liver will thank you.

heres an easy trick to avoid snakes whle sleeping in snake country is. Get to weasels and stake one on a 4 foot rope by at the head of your sleeping bag and one at the foot. If space is tight left and right works well.

Dont use opposite sex weasels as they will just end up humping
and make sure they like you or they will attack you in the night.

works for me every time

(no access to weasels? wolverines, road-runners, and hawks work well too.)

Since it's so hard to keep batteries charged on the playa, this guy modded his computer to run on gasoline:

I think this is a great idea - and it does away with all those exploding laptops. What a great tip!
