Hi,
I'm from Toronto. This year will be my first time out. Tickets are bought. I'll be going with a bunch of 2nd, 3rd and 4th time burners. I'm pushing them to raise the bar a bit and really add something to the playa. Our own dome, supply truck from Toronto being driven out, crazy costumes - not sure yet on themes or anything - we're working on it.
I'm not a pro DJ - I have a regular job - boo - but I've been DJing locally for 10 years and have loved music since the day I was born. I love to play at house parties and small events. My crew look forward to the nights when I'll be playing at one of our gatherings. For New Years 40 of us took over a friends farm house, set up our gear in the barn and danced till sunrise. Amazing.
The one thing I want to do at some point during the week (as well as experiencing as much as I can of Burning Man) is play somewhere. You can check out my mixes at http://www.djmikeryan.com - if you're interested in having me play then I would be really happy to. We might bring our own gear out to the playa too - but I'm still not sure yet - dust and all.
Here's a direct link to my latest mix. It's part 2 of a two part mix called RESO:LUTION - a New Years disk. It's house music - minimal, tech-house and techno. Part 1 is by my friend Mark. He won't be making the journey (I don't think) but you can hear his mix here. It's also house music but leans more toward the electro side of things.
Enjoy!
Thanks,
--r

Thanks for the tunes!!
I'm downloading it now and will check it out later on tonight. Looking at the line up, it look slike I'd like it though.
Keep a check on the 2008 Theme Camps and the 2008 Art & Performance threads. As the event gets closer, say around June or so, they’ll start heating up with activity. And hang around here… there’s a few DJ’s on the board who set up camps and are looking for folks to fill slots from time to time.

I thought some of the you Burning Man peeps might like this.
I just had the honor of spinning at a "Three Wales" party again on Friday here in Toronto. Four of the nicest guys (rommates) put on these parties about 4 times a year. They keep asking me back. This was my third time. We had a super, special sound system installed and it was the crispiest, warmest, cleanest sound yet. So nice. Better than any club I've ever played in.
Part 1 - Dr. James

Part 2 - Mark Baker

Warning: The bass levels on both my mixes are "hot" as I was compensating on the mixer for the fact that I couldn't adjust the levels on the amplifier. It sounded great in the room. The first part is mostly okay but does get a little bass heavy in a couple spots - it's more on the rough side in the second part.
Part 3 - Mike Ryan

Part 4 - Mike Ryan (cops arrived at 6:30 AM and asked us nicely to shut it down)

The recordings give you the gist of how the evening went. The sound in the room sounded much better than in the recording but this recording is pretty nice, just not as clean as my studio mixes....
Enjoy!
