Is Eplaya just an insiders club for 5 people?

All things outside of Burning Man.

Even if Eplaya is predominantly populated by 5 people and there multiple personalities it's still entertaining and helpful to the rest of us who read more than we write. It's also our fault for not participating more in the discussions. Hey 04 will be my first year so on a lot of topics I would be commenting out of ignorance but that doesn't seem to stop many of the old timers and we all have life experiences. There are 3309 registered users how about we here from the rest of all the rest of us a little more.

Oh and a sort of a program from one of the old timers to let the rest of us in on who are the primary personalities and who are there socks so we can know the players would be helpful.

IMHO I think it's gotten better.
My eyes just rolled around so violently in my head I almost blacked out...

Better for you maybe, but I don't even think to check it most days and when I do It's pretty rare I find a thread that I just gotta chime in on. That is, of course, just *my* humble opinion.
It's all about the squirrels.

Would it matter, really? Would you change your opinions or what you had to say? If your chat partners pass the Turing test, does it really matter whether they are people, socks, monkeys, or AI programs?

Everything is going extremely well. If you're really concerned about this, I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill, and think things over.

I'm not stressed about the socks, on the contrary at there best they seem to represent different aspects of the individuals. Interesting creative people usually aren’t one dimensional so knowing that some of them use different personalities for different aspects of themselves is fine with me. My interest comes from wanting to be able to put these facets together so I can see the whole gem.

Would someone queue up a rendition of taps and turn out the lights when your done? If this place keeps going as it is, I don't see any reason to stick around.

Where's our rules? Why do the STOPBM people get to use BMORG funded servers to promote their message? Why doesn't someone in power have the balls / authority / whatever to stop the abuses?

It's so frustrating. You call into an ETF meeting and are the only phone caller. You read people's bitching in other threads but when it comes time to get off their ass and do something to help, they choke. Trey has contributed material behind the scenes, in fact much of the proposed rules were built on his suggestions. But otherwise nobody stood up and tried to do anything. Technopatra was left hanging with no authority to deal with the fuckwits, the STOPBM people got a free ride, and now this place has about as much appeal as living next to a toxic waste dump.

It's going to be interesting to see if it bounces back, but at this point I'd be calling the monument people and have them start carving a tombstone for this place. It's got serious problems and the outlook is not good.

Actually, I'm the only real person on the Eplaya besides you.

Everyone else is just a developed, demented figment of my imagination.

And now I'm starting to wonder about you too...

Hey, was'nt trying to be mean. I'm gonna have one after I write this.

I really dont see the big deal with everyone and this stopBM site thingie.

The thread has already been turned to mayo and I'm not really sure if anyone really read the site thoroughly. The site cannot really do any damage. If anything it makes the case for burningman by making the case that BM does take the best care that it can consistantly.

One case in point (amoungst many), They posted on thier site how Krimson went way out of the way to chart the location by GPS.
sends out thier own inspectors at thier own expense....etc.

Not worth getting bent outta shape over it.

The Mayo thing (though it really was not too nice of a thing to do) is a really funny thread.

Hey, a good thing came out of it all. That's why I love eplaya. Great entertainment.

Now off to drink my beer.

Cheers.

Sheesh, I gotta quit drinking or get some new eye glasses.. I thought they were saying "Stop by Burning Man" When I stop drinking, I'll get some new glasses... And don't forget to 'Stop by Burning Man' if your in the neighborhood.

For starters, SBM.org is not so much abusing the board as taking advantage of the free flow of discussion. You may not like what they have to say but - except for the multiple topics initially generated - I'd not call it abuse per se. Sure, they're a bunch of shit hats that ended up limping away with half of their collective asses dragging behind them but at least what they're putting out there generated more of a response/dialogue/discussion than any of DeFacto's all too predictable quivering lipped smiley's faces which he posts every time someone so much as farts.

But, getting back to the question....

Pulling the posts just because it runs counter to what the majority of us think and believe about our presence on the playa is nothing less than censorship.

Period.

But otherwise nobody stood up and tried to do anything.
You know why?

Because some people are out there in the real world actually doing other things, instead of sitting in front of their computers talking about them. Eplaya is not everyone's #1 priority, nor, IMO, should it be. Sure, it's fun, it's helpful if you've got questions, it's entertaining, but shit, I don't meant to sound rude, but get a life. Find something with more value than the eplaya and put some stock in that, be it BM related or not. Go build an art car, or paint a picture, or join the local curling team, or volunteer with Meals on Wheels.

When I take everything in my life and weigh it, I'm sorry, but the eplaya just don't rank that high.

seems like these socks main complaint is how much they dislike the eplaya or new eplaya or other socks on eplaya.

Thing I cant figure is why they keep comming back.

Eplaya must be pretty awsome.

Yes, I remember you saying this before.

Sometimes the best way to expose people for what they are is to allow them a platform to discuss their views.

I belive, Booker, Precipitate, Ivy, Tiara, Zane, Bob, Nipples, Enthropic, Badger and myself (chai guy) have all "stood up" and offered our opinions/advice/suggestions etc. for the eplaya and a User Guidelines Document.

Hummmmmm....

Well all I can say is It's time for the Plonker. Which BTW none of the above have offered one but I have....in fact I've offered 2 which Spanky has on his agenda.

so as far as I'm concerned, everyone is just blowing air from the posterior.

note that more than half of those top 20 no longer post here, and about 1/2 of the rest have severly curtailed their activity.

this is good, i think, since it points to the eplaya no longer being an insider club of a couple of prolific people. (it's now, i think, an insiders club of *one* very prolific person. i'm glad defacto likes it...)

This board sadly misses a Don Muerto. I should talk with my shaman about a dance to attract one. . .
