A Dome for Lazy Burners

Post by aranryan » Sun Apr 20, 2008 9:20 pm

So I was at Costco today and guess what I ran across? A 8-10ft kids play dome. My first thought, "OHHH That would be GREAT for Burning Man!" So of course I took some pictures with my phone to share with the community. I think I was getting funny looks from people, watching me get all excited over a children's dome structure and taking pictures. Even my g/f was giggling at me. LOL It was fun though.

I'm already neck deep in making my own 15ft dome, otherwise I may have been inclined to buy one. Has anyone come across these before? This is the first time I've seen these at Costco. They were right next to the Carports that everyone seems to be in love with. Anyhow, enjoy the pictures and if anyone is/has been using these, I'd love to hear how they made it work. :)

I must be a clod because I can't get the images to display correctly. The URLs above should reference the pictures... any tips?

Nice dome, if you're three feet tall.

Your "Disable HTML" box is checked. Uncheck it and all shall be visible to the throng assembled.

I had the same problem when I spotted a really cool dome in a playground once. I grabbed my camera and went to take pictures of it and on the way I was like - these people are going to think I'm a pervert or something. I was careful to make sure I didn't get any of the kids in the pictures.

I'm wondering if the connectors could be used with normal EMT. What diameter are the pipes in the kit?

They look like I do on the morning after the burn. Hangover, dehydration, sunburn... etc.

When I looked at the connectors I wasn't impressed with them. The backside of the struts is concave which is then bolted to the 5 and 6 way connectors with hex key bolts. It may hold up a 50lbs kid but not a 200lb hairy hippie. And I know I'd strip hex bolts in a second out on the playa and who the hell carries hex keys around?

Probably wouldn't stock much of a sound system either...I've had subwoofers the size of this dome. ;-)
