This reminds me of a personal example. This happened when i
was very young. To young to go to school. It was spring and I was home
with my mother. She had allowed me to go out on the porch and play in
the sun. While I was there I was looking around at the flowers. There was
a bumble bee servicing one of the blooms near me. Not knowing
any 'better' I picked it up! As I played with I watched it sting my fingers.
No worries. It was odd and interesting but no pain. As a child is prone to
do I went and told my mother to look at what it did. Well immediately
there was all the usual exclamations of fear worry and statements about
how much it must be hurting. SO much so I became afraid and cried. And
thus I learned what a sting was and that pain was to be feared. It has
been interesting me my entire life to remember that it did not hurt until I
was told it did. When reading this thread it reminded me of the power of
learned judgments. Perhaps there was one learned that day.

Sympathetic magic, also known as imitative magic, is a type of magic based on imitation or correspondence.
Imitation involves using effigies or poppets to affect the environment of people, or occasionally people themselves.
Correspondence is based on the idea that one can influence something based on its relationship to another thing.
