No! There is a camp for steppers but I think they are on the other side of the city and rightly so. 9:00 Party(er) side! I've been preconditioning my liver and it hates me for it.

There is no limit. My guess at the maximum amount of staggers possible is Seven to Ten Billion. Camp size would be 2.52e+12 square feet. But alot of people would have to loosen up for that to happen.

Please rephrase the question if you are asking to be in camp with us. If that is where you are going a little introduction would be awesome.
Mots, we DID introduce ourselves in the 'Introduce Yourself' forum just a few nights ago!! :) But I have a feeling we will be re-introducing ourselves over the next 111 days (and the ensuing 7 as well)...

Gage & dG here... 1st time burners this year. I know it's still roughly 4 months away, but as we learn more about the vent and how we want to appraoch it, these are the thoughts (or challenges) we are mulling over:

- At first we were thinking of bringing an RV/Motorhome/5th Wheel/Tow Trailer, for the main purposes of a) somewhere to shower (this is BIG for my girl) and b) a solid, structured environment to come home to in the vent we get all fuckered up.
- After researching the expenses related to either renting or borrowing an RV to make the trek, we are realizing the cost, and personally, I think we are losing some of the core benefits of experiencing burning man by doing the RV thing... *feedback here is requested*
- Lastly, we have looked through some of the camps that have already posted, and we don't want to feel we have to follow some schedule at certain points in the day to participate. We want to visit each major camp (of course), but being forced to participate goes against the reason we are going...

- So, yes Mot, we are very interested in being a part of Stag Camp based on the information we've read through, but could someone elaborate on the following?
-- Is there a shower area that we can borrow, or will someone educate us on how to setup a shower environment that will satisfy my g/f?
-- What recommendations do you have for (or against) using an RV?
-- If we don't use an RV, what special things can we pre-plan on bringing to make it as 'relaxing and welcome' as possible?

Thanks for your input stagers and stagies!! :)

GageNdG,
Check this out for some shower designs. http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic. ... ower+setup
Keep in mind that you are only going to feel clean for a limited time after a shower due to unavoidable dust exposure. Many people and possibly the majority of people at the burn do not take showers but do sponge baths and the baby wipe thing. My set up is elevated off the ground and I use a kid pool, a plywood floor and a tarp on the ground to make sure grey water does not hit the ground. I hope this helps.
RVs are good because they are already a solid enclosed space and all your stuff is in there set up. They can be hot as hell in the day time and only cool if air conditioned. Air conditioning = generator and generators piss people off if they are loud or not properly enclosed. They are alot less of a hassle than a tent and shade structure.
If you do a tent I recommend a Monkey Hut with open ends and a tent inside. Do a search to find pictures and instructions relating to monkey hutts. I camped in one one year and they seem to offer the best ease of set up to durability ratio.
Finding the right camp set up is one of the first challenges. You have plenty of time to make it happen with comfort and style. Doing a bunch of research in this board and the rest of the internet can really help you develop a picture of what will be going on. They say nothing can prepare you for the playa and you have to experience it to get the true picture. Watch you tube videos for an idea of the wind and dust. Keeping things simple really helps and gives you more time to interact with the city. Good luck.

Sister and I are virgin burners, we are bringing a 5th wheel. the first time I mentioned bringing it," cheeky" monkey (Funky Monkey Mech) offered to be our neighbor as we would create a great windbreak! Yeah, some people will probably throw a tantrum, but sister and I camp around 20-25 weekends out of the year, rain, shine, whatever, and we do it in a 12th century style pavillion, so we get enough "experience" so I say, if the lady needs a shower, start collecting cans and rent her an r.v. that has one!! ha ha ha. Just kidding, I'm sorry. Seriously, the whole philosophy of Stag camp(as I understand it) is we come together to celebrate our experience as we want to, as long as we love and repect each other. Besides, I can't wait to get Plowman, Motsky, and a few others trapped in the 5th wheel during a dust storm!!! Ahaaaaa! Ahaaaaa! (Sorry, I'm not very good at evil, pervy laughs!)
So, r.v. or not come and be with us, 'cuz stag camp seems to be the place for us virgins. Hey we should do a virgin stag parade!!! (again with the bad evil laugh!)
much love to you my family :D

Thanks for the link on Showers, and for the rest of the info...

dG has been finding me on eplaya, burning man and related links, you tube, google earth, and anything else I can get my hands on related to BM... I'm a sponge when it comes to info, and all this info is generating new and exciting ideas!! I haven't even been to BM before and I'm in planning mode...

She's a tad worried... lol

Vampira;
Welcome, sounds to me like a "Bloody Mary" is in order, It would be
my pleasure to serve you

GageNdG;
Welcome, If you two havn't had to much expierience camping in harsh
environments then the RV would probably be the right way to go for you.
The survival guide!! You are probably tired of hearing this but you need to read through it. I do, every year. And this will be my 6th in a row
(don't know how to spell consecutive)

I was with my brother this past weekend and he still isn't sure if he will come this year. But he is going to let me borrow his truck and trailer for the burn this year. The trailer is just a covered car hauler that once hauled a race car, but this will be the first time I won't have to do the tent thing. It will definately be different for me as I usually do the tent thing

A few things about using an RV on the Playa,

It's best to still shower outside. And to use the JOTs . The holding tanks on RV are not that large and will fill up FASTER than you think. Yes you can get a mid week pumping from JOTs, but don't plan on it. The same is true for dish washing. Been using mine for 10 years now and had to get pumped 3 time in 10 years and each time it cost $75.00 I stay 10 day on the Playa. 8) 8) 8)

Thanks guys! 8)
I just spent about an hour working on a really cool one, only to have it refuse to be saved on my computer. This old dinosaur just ain't what she used to be, I look forward to the day I can blow it up! Serves me right for not using the office computer I guess...

Plowman, there ain't nothing fancy about what I'm doing, it's just the free image editing software from photobucket.com and pics I pulled off of Google image searches. Mozy and Crappypants are the graphic designers, I am just fortunate enough to be able to make up for a little of what I lack in technical skill with my overactive writer's imagination. Also I got too much time on my hands!

In other news, it looks like I've been accepted into the Center Camp Documentation Posse, or CCDP as I've taken to calling it! Early arrival, free grub, and late departure, what could be better? I applied for a low income ticket and even though I made my application as articulate, interesting, and artistic as I could, and stuffed the crazily decorated envelope with confetti, candy, and rose petals, (and a small plastic spider) it's still an outside shot at best, I DID kind of wait til the last minute. I should know in a couple of days...

Funky, have you heard from the spaceport yet? I have not, and it should be scheduling time...

I'm thinking about printing out some of the Stag Camp logos and then gluing them to plywood to be used as signs for the land grab, what do you all think?

Future Stag Camp logo:

(couldn't even get your quote to come up the way I wanted)

Looks like you will be there with Nikki. Watch over each other!
Land grab is looking good.

Just filled out the questionare to volunteer, (DPW and Greeters)
I don't think I gave them enough info to gain early entrance for either but we will see.

If we want to do this Greeter thing as a group, (and I think we should), everyone has to fill out a questionare

Hey Staggers! My wife and I are going to burning man for the first time this year. Stag camp sounds ideal.
My name is Jason, I'm 27. I'm a computer animator at Laika studios in portland oregon. I'm going to be running our local relay race from the mountains all the way to the ocean (hood to coast) for two days straight, then jumping in a car and making the treck to black rock the following day... kissing the sweet lips of fatal exhaustion. I cant wait!
My wife is a cosmetologist. She wasn't too sold on the burning man thing thanks to our friends who can't quite fathom why we'd want to spend a week in the desert (thus... our interest in stag camp) But as soon as I got the tickets she started getting excited.
If there's a spot for us in Stag Camp I think we'd love to hang out with you all. We're really looking forward to meeting new friends and sharing what we bring.

GageNdG: Hah, I think we're in the same boat. Super excited with ladies on the fence. We were considering the rv thing too, mainly to keep out of the sun and have access to the all-important shower. It so expensive though, we may just opt for building a dome. Who knows, if the shower thing doesn't work out maybe we can get our ladies together to grouse and we'll go play in the dirt!

Motsky-I am soo rude, I didn't even respond to your question the other day, I'm sorry :( (killer sinus infection). To answer, the geenhouse is bulging, we are having to wait to get plants into the garden because of the cold and rain. They even did a local new report last night about how people are buying seed seedlings etc..but not able to plant and I drove by my neighbors and they have a whole patio of prettys waiting for the good earth! Anyway, we did plant some potato towers, and get some corn started in the greenhouse.

(Angry Eunuch)-Too bad about your name dude, I'd be angry too, if I was a guy! ha hah ha Just kidding, welcome brother, see you when we get home! (our first burn too!)

Sweet monkey! Lets stick a tail on that thing, put a dancefloor, a tree and a camo-net on top and get it registered as a mutant vehicle! The monkey-mobile is gonna fling its way across the playa this year.

Humm as intresting as that would be i don't think i could afford to fuel it the whole week as a mutant vehical then expect to have enough to make it out of BRC lol... but i do love the idea... plus it would make a nice look out at camp so people who want to in camp can climb on top and watch sun rises.... bank get back to me tommrow... so fingers crossed... this time i went with personal loan... did that because they seem to just hand them out at my bank.... friend of mine she got shot down for auto loan cause she has horrible credit ( she has 6 2k limit cards maxed out and late).... but she got a personal loan for 10k.... the little bit of credit i do have is no to bad so i figure if she can get a 10k loan with shit credit... 2k with a little decent credit is probley going to be a breeze :) next step if i get the bus... taking out the gas engine and putting in a diesel off an old F-250... the tranny would be a stright bolt up with one so i could convert it to diesel then biodiesel with no problem... which would make the trip a lot easier.....

Just one thing wrong with it though, it's white! It's badly in need of a psychedelic paintjob!

All right yall, sorry to post up in the eleventh hour agian-- I won't be able to keep abreast of all this activity until after graduation. A few things that happened along the last few pages that I want to address:

Mozy's stag image was fantabulous and I think it says something important about Stag Camp that Red was getting at with her post about equality. We use "stag" in the connotative sense, not the denotative. Stag's connotation as "a male who attends a social function alone," stems from its denotative relationship to a biologically sexed term. We're all postmodern (postpostmodern) enough to realize the artificial nature of links drawn between sex and gender characteristics. This term, as in "stag party", was coined at the beginning of the 1900s, when it was natural to envision a swanky man at a party, confident, independent, alone, and probably smoking cocaine-laced cigarettes. Today, it's more than plausible to picture the same solo individuals, confident, independent, swanky, though not necessarily smoking the same, as female. Which is why, in the definitions of "stag" given at the top of our tribe site, we define a stag as "one" who attends a social function alone. Mozy, I really appreciate the way you've mixed the masculine and feminine in your piece without losing the dignity and uniqueness of either. Also, it's really pretty. ;)

Plowman's refresher on the nature of Stag is totally timely and necessary. Thanks Shell. I just wanted to add that, in addition to our rules, we are really serious that everyone be completely self-reliant. Consider the Burning Man "rules" to be our rules as well. You alone must be capable of hauling your gray water. If you're not going to build an evaporator, bring a large gasoline jug. Motsky was kind enough last year to let us use his shower set-up. Do NOT rely on this. Be prepared to haul your own trash. Etc. etc. etc.

As far as showers go, I do not want to be a downer, but... to our newbies... you HAVE to prepare your ladies to give up on the idea of being clean. Otherwise, they will fight an uphill battle that ends only in frustration. After the burn ended, I washed my hair in the hotel THREE TIMES before it was even remotely passable. The problem is, they will not be able to use their normal hair care products. These are not safe for the playa. There is no good biodegradable, nontoxic, chemical free shampoo and conditioner. Everyone uses Dr. Bronners. It feels good, but it will not feel like a normal bath. The dust will get under your finger nails. It will bury itself in your pores. The very best ways to get clean are to visit some of the shower camps, like the Human Carcass Wash and the Steam Room. At the Human Carcass Wash, lines of people wash each other. It is very respectful and a positive experience--nearly a dozen of us Staggers made a field trip there together last year. But, the camp is visible to the street, and, if they are not comfortable being naked, this solution will not work. At the Steam Room, if they have it again this year, you wash yourself, but the nakedness problem persists. (Also, chasing the water truck... though your feet get a bit muddy, unless you're in socks...) I went in last year thinking anyone who got completely naked in public was crazy, even to shower, and by day two I was doing it myself. The playa is like that. So, there are options. But they are playa options. Even with the fanciest RV rig available, your girl will be dirty. Key is for you both to learn to love it. It's more than worth it. ;)

And, if that sounds devastating to your cause... tell the ladies they will get the best tan of their entire fucking lives. Guaranteed.

Lonestoner, congrats on Doc Posse. Glad to have another Stagger there for the grab.

Much love.

The best couple of showers I had were provided by a group that had a power washer, and they pw'd those passing by in the street. I think it is pretty efficient water-wise, although I guess there is a mild problem of micro-human-goopy-moop in the street, but it seemed like it just knocked the top layer of playa off the skin. I'm not big on sporting glitter, paint, or somebody else's caked-on vomit, so outside of normal sebum oil, I don't think too much micro-moop hit the playa.
