how to get from reno train station to burning man?
this is my big obstacle in getting to attend this year. i cant afford gas for my car all the way from philly but a train ticket out is a fraction of that cost. but how would i get to burning man and back to the train? and what about all the crap id have to bring in with me - how would i get all my water and food and all with me.... i guess i could rent a car .... still might be way cheaper than paying for gas all the way from philly..... but are there any cheaper options? ideas? :D

Pack your stuff on a pallet with walls and send it ahead on Amtrak Freight(my sister had a stove shipped to her that way from vermont to oregon). Have them hold it at the station for you. Go rent a pickup from hertz and have the forklift at the station put it in the back after removing the tailgate. Put a moving blanket down in the back of the pickup to prevent scratching. Reinstall the tail gate and head off to costco or whereever to stock up on food etc. Then hit the road!

On a more nearly serious note, car rental companies won't rent to you if they know you're going to Burning Man. Drop by Louise's pages at
http://civilizedexplorer.pbwiki.com/CivExReno
and read up on shopping in Reno - it's a nice town, and it has all the stuff you're going to need, so you don't need to bring it with you.
Louise has links to places to rent cars, buy groceries, tents, whatever, and it's sorted by location or by topic, whichever you prefer.
There have been people in Reno who have provided transportation to Black Rock City, so hang out here and see if they'll do it again this year. Green Tortoise has on occasion run its bus from Reno to BRC and back, so check their page at
http://greentortoise.com/san-francisco-hostel/index.php
and maybe drop them an email to see if they have made their plans yet.

there are numerous "shuttles" from the airport, assuming the whole biobus thing wasn't a "greenman" one time deal.
keep your eyes open for the 'burnclean project' biobus, take a cab to the airport from the train and hop it.
you have to schedule and pre-pay. they make a stop at whole foods for all your shopping needs blah blah blah
they take you back too, of course.

At a regional deep in the big woods, I found I was following a cab to the end of the road late at night.
I think it happened fairly often at that event.
Not as far as Gerlach, but far enough.

I've seen cabs driving fares way north of Gerlach, fwiw. It's an option.

Funny enough, I have a friend who did this years ago- late 90's, I think. I have no idea what it cost her.Bob wrote:Take a cab.
Friends already on the playa had her food & water, etc...
