unfathomable
I'm really looking forward to my first burn. I've been reading through some of the threads and stuff. Do we have to book a place with a theme camp or is there a fair element of more random improvised camping?
The london_announce forum doesn't have any activity it seems. Any tips/links?
Cheers

Yes -
you can drop reservation requests on this thread and the right people will reply with your reservation number and confirmation.
Browse the camp listing and figure out which theme camp you want to stay with, from there your set. Fees vary by camp and space is limited so you may get bumped to another camp so dont forget to list alternates.
good luck

You don't need to join a theme camp unless you find one that meets your interests or you want to camp with people and share facilities, and that needn't be a theme camp.
It could just be a camp with other people.
You can always find a camp that interests you and pitch in.
Look around when you get there and say hi to people.
Theme camps are to interact with the public in some way.
It's a hard concept to get until you get there.
Try to camp on the good side of the man.

Cant little Ralphie have some fun?
anyways - no, theres no centralized camp registration or assignment. Each Theme Camp is a unique endeveaur and is can be run militaristically precise (apok) or as loose as that particular theme camps management or lack of wants.
Going solo is done by thousands every year and all have a blast. Being communal creatures some people find it easier to camp together, others dont.
May 22nd is never too late.
A lot of people wont know if they can go until the friday before BM opens or later! so its a ll doable.
have fun and read this site a lot. the search option at the top works great well. Most questions have answers here already,

Golly, can't you people be serious for one bleeding minute....this poor chap needs some help and guidance....
I will take your Reservation and Credit card Number and Book you a nice camp on the good side of the Man. If you would like to attend a brief, 30 minute video and seminar on the benefits of Time-Sharing in a Gift economy, at NO additional fee, i would be more than happy to sign you up now for that as well.
Please call my office or come in person to the blue door under the Circus-Circus Clown, next to the Dairy Queen #1 in Reno.
come alone, and make sure you were not followed.
thank you, and have a Swell Burn.

ooh! Hello again chaps. I've been away for a while. I really am lost as to what kinds of shenannigans you guys are witting about. I feel a kind of fear in my gut and down the back of my spine that the camps I like the most will be the ones that render me in tatters, violated and setionned, quietly thankful to be alive
Re hooligans, not sure f that's the one. Hooligans are basically what happens when Brits loose the wit to be sure to be sure

Are you trying to become a doomed citizen of terminal city?Mic wrote:Aye, all good man. It'll be wicked to catch the Terminal crew bantor in the flesh on the playa.
Some of us are bribable.

Not trying to be an anorak here, but for those who don't know, trainers are sneakers.
I'm not sure I get the subtext of the last part about the germans though?
Hope you're staying shut of bunny boilers!

Not sure where I'm gonna decide to go yet. Regarding bribes, I do have bags full of dissapointments, insults, half arsed efforts and the like, which I have used in many a festival. It's amazing how may people will literally pay money for such things! They're not uplifting, yet refreshingly grounding. You could weild such currencies for clout on the field.
Gyre, I was referring to the less pleasant xenophobic class of English who group Americans and Germans (and sometimes the French) into a similar category. Although I am not of that type of class, it still feels treasonous explaining it... bunny boilers?

If you enable your bbcode in your profile the features should work.
And I recommend setting your email unless you just don't want email.
The pm system is awkward at best.

Most of the slang we get over here from the uk is at least a year old, though I think we're going to get current episodes of Shameless soon.
'Bunny boiler' is one out of London I heard very recently.
Maybe it hasn't caught on?
It refers to an unhinged or overly possessive woman.
I think the reference is to the scene in 'Fatal Attraction'.
I just about split a gut when I heard this one.

That seems like a stretch.
I know someone in the midlands who is quite even tempered and cordial, until it comes to the french, whom he seems to hate with remarkable and colorful enthusiasm.
