I don't agree that giving out coffee at center camp is being a pain in the ass. Every year about 1/2 of our residents are newcomers. In general our community like to share and help each other out. We like to fill voids. When someone chooses to buy coffee at center camp I would guess it is because they do not realize that there are many people offering to share their own resources without bringing commerce into the city.

But I'm also the guy who brings his own snacks into the movie theaters.

oh shit VDS!
you busted me! when it comes to movie theaters I do that too.

I hear you on the other stuff too, it's just that solaritea knows that it doesn't sit well with the center camp cafe managers so it's kind of being "not so nice" to them. I work there in CC on occasion as did I work in the service industry for years. I personally have a hard time with those who don't understand this point.

I really try to understand the benefit to this idea of "giving" away something and at the same time "taking" away revenue from part of this wonderful ORG who makes this event work through a semi-complex web of operations. (I know, I know,...wonderful ORG?) let's not start that thread.

P.S. I also think that many head to center camp with their dollars to do something that reminds them of their "normal" existence. So programmed to use currency and stand in line for coffee and act like what you're seeing and doing is absolutely "normal".

Can't forget that those baristas are also being deprived of tips interactions and gifts from those who get that "free" tea and coffee. Hey, I know, it's not much but a dollar to me might be worth more to someone else.......

blah blah blah davidson just beat wisconsin in case anyone cares

No. We don't care. We don't subscribe to "march madness" a pathetic ritual that emotionally repressed middle america has to go through because otherwise they'll be mass suicides to make Heaven's Gate look like a sunday school picnic! Now, stop cluttering up eplaya with it.

It's my understanding that ice sales are mandated by the county as a public health measure, and honestly the idea of 50,000 cases of food poisoning is unappealing.

Coffee is more complicated. Word is that it's supposed to provide a sort of "beginner space" where people who aren't used to the idea of walking into a camp and beginning to interact can get their feet wet. Is that true? I don't know. But I can't throw it out right away. Anyway, if that is the case, the coffee sales basically pay for the center camp space, rather than adding it onto the cost of tickets.

Ya know, the huge shade structure that center camp is built around doesn't set itself up. They let the DPW have that 'honor'.

Do they sell tea at center camp ?

I hate coffee, but I love tea.

I don't go to center camp at all, except to march around it during Critical Dicks.
