Is Eplaya just an insiders club for 5 people?

All things outside of Burning Man.

For what it's worth when you add up my accounts and the posts I had I trumped everyone in post counts. That was then, I have since moved to a better place. I'm kinda a geographical outsider over there but it's a place I really like. And every day I learn something new, cool, or just interesting.

I miss this place but the content is just not here anymore. DF, have fun, the board is yours.

Badger 1009 + Isotopia 421 = 1430

I think Badger/Iso still have you beat, unfortunately the eplaya dosen't have a "quality" ranking system.

I think this is another case where size doesn't really matter but creative use of all of the openings does-into the mind I mean.

I will be here as long as I can read you, Chai Guy, Nipples and Wind Borne, and Blue bird, Mr Smith and.........The water is still fine. Occasionally chilly and someone pisses in it sometimes.

Being in one place does not preclude being in another-eventhough I'm a long way from understanding strings and branes.

(yes, I'm aware all my metaphors are screaming in protest at being stretched this far and being in such close proximity-so shoot me!)

My name should always come before Badger. I'm nicer, and better looking than that self-righteous, foaming-mouth bastard. He can be a prick at times and he's not nearly as right/correct as he'd have us most of us believe.

However, he does have well earned bragging rights to those mojito concoctions he makes.

Sometimes old friends.
Sometimes new friends.
Sometimes hope and
Sometimes 'cause you can't take your eyes off watching a train wreck.

Hate to break your heart, but you ARE the secret decoder ring. So secret that you don't even know that you are.

But it could. We looked into a "reputation" mod, but when we asked about ti the only response we got was negative - valid arguments about focusing on the popularity/#post aspects rather than the quality of discussions....if you all seem to want it, we could look at it again.

I would be all for that. A "reputation" mod would be better than a plonker for me.

Problem is that there's often a new person who comes in and scores big time with an idea, thought or rant. Because that person doesn't have much under their belt in the way of a posting history it seems they'd be under the radar as far as such a ranking system goes.

I've always thought a 'best of' would be cool - especially in terms of practical information for new folks. Any of bob's posts regarding structures and such makes a good case in point. Same for ANY of PJ's one liners.

i think the arguments against the "reputation" mod are still valid, since it is particularly susceptible to sock puppet/clique abuse. what you really want are the ratings of people you agree with (which mimics the subdivisions of and large community), for you personally, as opposed to some sort of global ratings system which imposes the rule of the majority (even if they are fake people) on everyone else.

(and i think chai guy's comment was rhetorical - alluding to the fact that quality is often not best determined by popular opinion.)

Lets call 3 "devils advocate"

So lets say that the above arguments are true. I dont see how we can say theses arguments can be true without trying them first. I find these arguments to be frivilous without trying the mods first.
IMHO it would be the same as "pot is a bad drug." this comming from someone who has never smoked pot before.

I say just put the mods in place and then take on all callers. By then either the mods can be taken away or they can be modified, and being that most of them are PHP, 3 can help in the development of their modifications.

whatta ya say.

I would much rather have a plonker than be abused by the ratings of the various circle jerks around here.

Oh please, no ridiculous ratings system. That's just what we need, more bullshit that obscures the real issues people could be discussing. Every time some asshole is on the DF (dumb fuck) side of an argument they can create 20 sock puppets to boost their "popularity" and then point to that as some sort of demented "proof" that their position is justified.

Now, who would advocate the implementation of a mod that seems practically designed to manipulate and deceive others like this?

looks around
It's not that I hate you. It's just that I'm a much better person than you.
