Acrylic Mirror

Post by Quidam » Fri Feb 13, 2004 11:45 am

I'm in the planning stages of an art installation for '04 and had a materials question: It will require large sheets of acryllic mirror, glass being too expensive and dangerous. Where in the California area would the best prices be found for such supplies?

Not sure about specific places, but looking up "plastics" in the yellow pages should give you a number of places to call.

They aren't local, but I've gotten good deals in the past from Kenward Plastics, especially on custom stuff so you might send them an email:

Tap Plastics can get you what you need but probably won't have the best price. If you just need small test pieces they might be a good option though since they don't charge for cutting.

Thanks for the tip- I'm hoping to find something in Cali so as to possibly avoid shipping charges.

I'm hoping to install a maze of mirrors built out of equilateral triangles forming a hexagon. Sprinkle with pixie lights and fibre optics and you've got yourself a stroll through the infinite Vault of Heaven.

I've made satisfactory mirrormaze panels from cardboard with mylar space blankets spray-cemented on.....they're not optically perfect, but they're DAMN CHEAP.
