To display images you need to put [img] on Both Sides of the image URL, no spaces. Make sure nothing is disabled in the options area and you should be good.

To put pictures in your signature, go to Edit Profile from the main screen and then it's the same thing only you have to manually type in the [/img] things on the end of your image URL.

Hey guys,

Love the pictures and jokes and all but just a quick reminder to try and keep things a bit more on topic. The one thing we've asked of new Staggers (besides self-sufficiency) is that they read the Survival Guide as well as our ENTIRE thread, which is now sixteen pages, so they understand the camp. That being said, it seems fair if we keep our posts here limited, for the most part, to what's relevant to everyone. If we're going to have lots of jokes and images, etc, it's best if we keep those to private messages, blogs, etc.

Sorry to be a downer, but I think it's important. Thanks guys!!!

You're absolutely right, but no worries, I've asked our wonderful moderator AntiM to help us trim some of the fat off the thread. Sorry for all the bad logos guys, but I've gotten the help I needed, and I'm better now thanks to the medication...

Good news on my side of the planet (maybe, I think)
I just bought a 1994 Dodge Caravan.
It has some things that need to be attended to though,
possibly a radiator,
tires, shocks and struts, and a windshield for sure!
But the engine is good, I've taken the seats out of the back and there is ample room for all my stuff.
Couldn't pass it up ($300.00)

Nice purchase!! :!: I check craigslist everyday for screaming deals. I missed getting a good high power wire feed welder for $70 today. Aw shucks. What I am really looking for is a fully functional navigational radar for the Space Yacht. I've only seen one around here in my price range. Most go for big $. I dream of seeing really big art on my radar screen :) :D .

STAG!

Post by amphibiac » Mon May 19, 2008 6:45 am

Okay, time to stop the lurkage. I am Justin. Hello! I am finally taking the plunge and will be going to my first burn this year. I've been keeping tabs on this thread for a couple weeks, and decided to commit after getting more and more fired about about STAG! camp. I am coming from SF, plan on doing the whole week, hopefully arriving pretty close to Sunday night/Monday morning opening.
So far, its just me solo. I am not sure how much all my stuff will take up, but I do have a Honda Civic I am driving to and from and would be interested in sharing if someone needs a lift.

I am soo psyched (and a bit nervous!)!

Hello Justin, and on behalf of everyone, welcome to Stag Camp! Please read the Survival Guide and this thread in their entirety and then print them out and eat the pages, and you should be ready for Burning Man! We have only three simple rules in our camp, be self reliant, no (unwanted) violence, and NO MOOP. Be sure to check out the Stag Camp 2.0 Tribe on Tribe.net and feel free to post up an introduction there as well.
AntiM informs me she can't delete any post that doesn't break the rules of the boards so I'm afraid trimming the fat isn't possible. This thread isn't really as long as it seems though, once you get past all the images... That being said, this is the last image I'm going to post here, in an effort to keep this thread to a manageable size.

Hehehe, and of course the lovely Anti M said no, because we don't do that on eplaya unless you violate the TOS or are a spammer. You post it, we all get to read it for eternity. However, threads can be managed.

May I suggest a Stag Chat thread? Stagger Inn in OD? Be sure all you want said has been said here, I can lock it but not delete it. Just be sure to copy and paste this url in the first post of the new thread. This is NOT the usual thing, but I think it will be okay.

Work for you?

I am of the opinion that I definitely want to keep this thread active and unlocked. I definitely don't want to have to refer people to a locked thread. If another Stagger wants to start a thread for show and tell and other things then I welcome it. One of the really great things about this place is that anyone can start their own thread about anything.
In the end this is our 2008 thread and it is what it is. It is a place for reunion, introduction, welcoming, updating, collaborating, planning, advising, brainstorming and so much more. We can ask for a certain level of decorum which I think is useful but the reality is anyone can post relatively anything here. So I say..Lets put our best feet forward and get ready for the tsunami of new staggers that are about to pop up. Here it comes! The 100 day mark! It's about to get crazy!!!

Welcome amphibiac! You may well be the tidal retreat before the big wave. How great is that! Being nervous is perfectly normal. We are here to answer questions and so on.

Hey AntiM, thanks for the attention! Always good to see your shiny icon on our thread (or any thread for that matter!).

We would definitely like to keep this thread open. It's the heart of our communication with the eplaya community. My post was just intended as a friendly reminder to try and keep posts here to Stag planning and to use the general discussion forum on our tribe page for all our yollering and banter. (We all really like talking and we all really like each other, so we have a lot to say. :D )

That being said, the term "Stagger Inn" is phenomenal and it will surely be pilfered for some Stag use in the future. Thanks for the gem!

Good news on the monkey front!

Post by Funky Monkey Mech » Tue May 27, 2008 10:34 pm

Interesting piece of FYI things back home got a bit better cousin is out of hospital.... he has dibaties but will live thank god.... and my mom's friend gave her a better car... still used but better then she used to have so.... things are looking up on that front.... still need to see my aunt who has cancer... and i am also still helping my mom a bit with rent and things... but i am saving what i can so hopefully if all goes well....I might make the playa yet this year.... got my economic stimulus check for $300 from the IRS so that will help.... and even bigger shocker my mom said next year (BM 09) if she can save enough money she would like to come with me to the burn..... I don't know if that is good or bad thing.... For one i would have to babysit her... for the simple fact that 2 glasses of wine and she is totally stumbling over her self drunk.... which could be funny... but at same time annoying... and well there are a few other reasons like her hate of camping and being dirty.... then again she is mega cool as far as mom's go so.... it might actually be a cool thing....who knows..... she has accepted me fire breathing a lot better then i though she would so.... ya never know....it could be cool...:)

At this time we are forty souls as registered on tribe but that does not include pairs and minicamps that are operating under one profile name. I think we might double camp participants between now and the burn.

On that note - my dad & I talked about burning man so much the rest of the family wants to make the pilgramage to BRC this year. So, it'll be me, dad, mom, brother, cousin, & my girlfriend - crammed into a towed camper! Hopefully the camper can help provide shade/wind-blockage, altho, we won't be getting into town until Wednesday.

Hey folks, my names kuki, i live primarily in new zealand but am on a break from work and spending it with my parents here in sacramento. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping this year will be my first burn (i dont fancy having to wait for 2009)... Oddly enough i stumbled upon the whole burning man thing after watching an episode of malcom in the middle and doing a google search....

Anyway im going to try my best to make it to the 2008 burn. I've already gone ahead and bought my ticket, the only problem i might be facing is the timing as i'm returning to new zealand on the 18th of July to finally quit my job and move back to sacramento Perminantly (which means having to give a months notice which will hopefully work out time wise)...

Since i'll most likely be making it *knock on wood* would you guys mind if i joined yall? Right now my plans are to drive up from sacramento on the monday and come back on sunday. I'll be driving my sisters ford explorer so there should be plenty of room for supplies (I'm one of those people who over packs for everything, which means i'll probably have enough supplies to last 3 weeks in the desert)...

I've also gone over the survial guide serveral dozen times and was wondering if anyone had any other ideas about things to bring that werent in the survival guide but would make the experience a little more cozy?

Welcome Kuki! We would be honored to camp with you!

Post by lonestoner916 » Fri May 30, 2008 5:57 pm

If I'm not mistaken, I believe you will be our first Kiwi in Stag Camp! You're in for the experience of a lifetime, that episode of Malcolm just barely scratches the surface of the real Burning Man experience! I'm a native of Sacramento, and my mom has been a local property manager for over fifteen years and worked all over town so if there's anything I can do to help you find a place and get settled in time to make the burn, let me know. As far as what to bring that's not in the survival guide, that's entirely up to you and the possibilities are endless, but beer and bacon will make you lots of friends, and it's a good idea to bring some glow for the nights. You're gonna love it!

Thanks lonestar :) my parents have pretty much taken care of things before the burn, and after the burn is when im gonna worry about finding a perminate home here in sacramento (once the house in NZ is sold of course)...

I do have a question about the whole gift giving economy, i was just wondering what exactly makes an okay gift and how much of it should i bring? (i guess i really cant get around the concept having never experienced such an economy before)... Also i know it says in the guide that you shouldnt spend money in the city (except for ice and coffee), but is there a rule of thumb as to how much cash i should have on hand (since i doubt they'll accept credit cards @ the ice camps)...

Hello BMnubNZ! The Gift Economy is different then a "Bartering Economy", altough you can barter. (the implied notion that you are giving an object in order to receive/accuire an object.) Simply put, gifting is just that: give it away just to make someone smile with no expectaions of receiving :D ! There is a thread on ePlaya about gift suggestions, cant' find right now, but I'd say try to make something (i.e-necklaces, bracelets, tokens, figurines, a n y t h i n g  ) as opposed to buying gifts to give. And bring alot (the more you give=more smiles). Our camp usually makes t-shirts and bandana's. Bring a little emergency cash for anything unexpected, or if you want to go on the bus ($5) into town for supplies.
