What's the terrain like?

Post by PFC » Tue May 20, 2008 12:55 pm

Hey guys, I just stumbled on Burning Man like 30 minutes ago. I can't believe how excited I've gotten within that short span.

This sounds like some seriously fun stuff.

I'm curious... What's the terrain like? I read something about bringing bicycles (!!) for transportation. What about unicycles? I assume if bicycling is recommended then so is unicycling. So is the city actually on literal rock?

Looking forward to partying with you guys.

Flat, hard and dusty. Kinda like an off-white parking lot, except you can pound stakes into it. A few ruts and dust puddles, but basically flat flat flat. Bikes and unicycles do well.

read the survival guide, read the survival guide, read the survival guide.

OK, yeah, I'll definitely read the guide probably tonight. Have you seen other unicyclers out there?

I would guess Artichoke Terrine, since that's the name on the image. Looks like a nasty version though. I had a good version once, with drizzled pesto on it. Yum.

Terrain, Terrine......

Why is it , when looking at that piece of cheese, that I find myself feeling violated by some French recipe ?

It's always uphill toward the esplanade.
Unicycles can work where there isn't too much dust.
Wide smooth tires work best.
Snow tires if you can.

On the playa you can even ride a semicycle (has only half a wheel).
