Sweat Lodge

Post by DeepSpace » Mon May 19, 2008 1:47 pm

We plan a small sweat lodge this uear...utilizing a cheap tent and gas heated rocks.

Anyone familiar with info on the net or in print with ideas for accomplishing this project?

Surely it's been done at the burn before?

Everything I find is top-heavy with native American religious fluff...I just want the nuts and bolts...

Thanks!

People cool down?
-We build a shower each year...kiddie pool, wooden slats, etc...

We'll heat rocks with gas jets...(wood fire is a hassle and moop intensive

The Steam Bath Project last year was awesome. It was an igloo shaped
structure at 8:00 & Boreal, near where i was camped so I visited a lot.

Inside was heated water and benches for nude people to sit on and
a water mister to pass around.

Midday was too hot, though peeps were there!! I only went early
morning or early evening. They used a a lot of water but near the
end of the week even more grey water.

You want to be HOTTER out there?!!!!

Get a white tent.
Go inside.
If you want humidity, take water in there. Spread it around.

You could just go to houston.

This stuff is fun in the snow in eisland.

If you catch me doing this in a warm climate, please sedate me.

Last I checked there were hundreds of personal sweat lodges all over BRC. Just hit the JOTS box anytime after ~ 10 am and I guarantee both heat and humidity.

If you absolutely must have a shared experience, the large urinal JOTS provide more spacious accommodations for your posse plus they do not put the blue juice in them so the aroma is pure piss clear strength.

I live in high humidity.
It loses it's charm after awhile.
A lot to do this year in humid spaces with no possibility of ac.

Showering on the playa is like an alien experience.
Come out of the shower at nightfall, the cold hits you, you grab the towel and by the time you have it....you're already dry.
Seems like magic.

If you can arrange some snow, I'm up for it though.
Important part of the experience, I think.

It would be a shame if I had to resort to self-deception to preserve my faith in objective reality.

Then just run out and jump into a nearby frigid alpine lake. Right.

Considering most sweat lodge ceremonies take place after the sun goes down there will definitely be a cool down when people come out, even in the middle of the desert summer.

I personally would prefer the sweat to be as natively ritualistic as possible. Not to keen on the idea of gas heated rocks. Seems like it would add some elements that shouldn't be there. To each his own though, and I would love to come by and hold space for the ceremony at least.

Keep us all updated.
