Welcome!

It can get into the 40's at night which is nothing too extreme for you guys. It feels cold after a day in the high 90's or 100's. What you wear depends on how hard you dance, how fast you pedal and how far you walk.

Be sure you are lighted at night. Wear tons of glow sticks, headlamp, etc on both your body and your bike. It's easy to get run over if you are a darkwad.

The coldest I've seen (and this will be my 10th year) is 28 degrees. But don't worry, 36 hours later it was 105. But typically expect the temperature to drop into the mid-40s. Anything below freezing is very unusual, but hardly unheard of.

SOOOOO Bring ALL YOUR WARM CLOTHES LAYER LAYER LAYER

If your leaving your camp at 3or later in afternoon you should be thinking about what your gonna were home if you get caught out after DARK
(even if you KNOW you'll b e back before DARK-'cause shit happens on the playa AND YOU NEED TO BE PREPARED) I HAte to be cold soooo I'm the person who carryed around my big fat white fur coat Last YEAR 'cause we had really mild nights... at least I had it if I needed it
If I were to wish ANYTHING I'd wish I were ME!!

At least one night every year, I am freezing wearing everything but the tent.
It always gets really cold right before sunrise.
There are rare warm nights.
I wear layers of fleece, a modified Feathered Friend's vest and a coat.
It wouldn't be out of line to have my parka on the worst nights.
If it's average, you can get by with average warm clothing, with layers.
Warms up quick with the sun.

In '01 I actually ran my air conditioner all night... in '04 it was so fucking cold at night I couldn't stand to be out and there were places I really wanted to go.
So yeah, be prepared for HOT and COLD!

Tuesday night of 05 it was so cold, and I couldn't find any of my gear, that I was certain that I was going to be found frozen to death in the chair I was sitting in. Fortunately someone who knew where my things were showed up before that happened.
It's going to be alright.

It varies a lot, and can vary rapidly. Just be sure to bring some warm clothes and plan your nights around many layers so you can adjust to conditions and to your activities. You'll be much colder walking across the open playa than you will be dancing or riding inside an art car.

Funny, how the hot-and-cold contrast makes 40 degrees seem so much colder. Usually I switch to shorts for the year as soon as the temp hits 40 here in Michigan! Decorating up a set of long johns might be a wise precaution...a Tyvek suit will also warm you up, and packs small. We LabWerks guys pack spacesuits, of course, so we're ready for cold AND duststorms!

Definitly bring a winter set-up (just in case/if have room). So cold one night that starting shaking, sloshing coffee whips left to right  Like been saying before, the cold normally wouldn't be a problem, BUT after extreme high temps during the day and such a rapid drop right when the sun goes behind the hills, the body has a hard time adapting and freaks out to compensate (nose starts running even if it's 50, etc.)

It gets colder than a well digger's ass in Idaho
but not quite as cold as
a brass toilet seat on the shady side of an iceburg
so dress accordingly.

If it's chilly, I think a hot cuppa coffee and a nice muffler will keep you warm:
