Filipino installation artists

Post by MidwayHaven » Mon Jun 02, 2008 3:16 am

Hi, I'm a n00b.

I'm a Filipino, and me and my art group have plans to participate in Burning Man '09. Our main goal is to put up a large bamboo/pine wood installation to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Baguio, a Filipino city founded by Americans. I've known of Burning Man since 1999 or so, but I'm not quite sure exactly how to acquire a spot in the playa itself. I have a lot more questions, but my main query is how a foreigner like me could get a good spot, and if there's anything I need to pay or something.

Thanks for the help!

Theme camp registration is closed now, but it wouldn't hurt to ask the org.
You can set up a theme camp by getting to a large enough space early enough to set up in the open camping areas.
If you're going to burn it or want to be on the open playa, register as an art project.

For those not familiar, bamboo burns really well.
The icon burned in north carolina is bamboo, really spectacular.
Best burn I've been to.
Christmas trees inside for a special touch.

Bamboo would be great.
There are no fees for a location.

He's asking for 09 (15 months from now), so there's no rush.
You'll need to have a place for the art, that would be an application to the llc, your camp needn't be. Although, getting camp placement might insure less of a commute. Sputnik and Jellyfish have had placed art, they might have worthy insight.

MidwayHaven, take note of the restrictions on plant material --

http://www.burningman.com/preparation/e ... lants.html

-- but be advised this page is incredibly badly written. Suffice it to say, the intent of the ban on "plants" is to keep pieces of bark, leaves, twigs, palm fronds, branches, soil, etc. off the desert floor because in past years this has created problems during cleanup after the event.

If you use seasoned bamboo w/ no leaves, and avoid bringing palm fronds & such, should be no problem.
