Is anyone familiar with these guys?

http://www.srl.org/

I think I remember them from some video I've seen.
They must be burners.

More caco than burners, I think. They certainly predate the playa, and probably the burn itself.

Is there really a difference anymore?
Does cacophony exist as an active thing these days?

Last time I looked, I couldn't find anything.
This is the message I got when I searched this area for a group...

We assume you're already some sort of bona fide eccentric free thinker type, a social misfit or maybe an escaped mental patient or you wouldn't be interested in the Alderan Cacophony Society.

So we'll see.

That's the one I found.
It seems more live than the last time I looked.
The local links are all dead though.
Rats.

Mark Pauline consulted with me on thermite igniters for my TruthBurn sculpture from last year. He gave some great advice on igniting difficult to start thermite, and no, I'm not gonna share it here. The group lost a crew member in Amsterdam that summer. Too bad. Pauline is cool beyond cool.

Thermite is easy to light.
Hard to put out.

I watched a shuttle launch from three miles away (the clock) and I couldn't help remembering that at the time, with two million pounds of the stuff in the boosters.
I can never tell whether I am shaking from the excitement or the shock wave.

So, do these guys come to the playa?

SRL rocks. I'll never forget the first time I saw the VHS with the short films. I'm favorable towards their 2x4 launcher. Pretty sure the docu on em is avail on DVD now. They are in their own element and I don't think they can really be compared to anyone or anything else. Bring GOOD ear plugs if you ever go see one of their shows.

You can light thermite with gunpowder.

I wish I had caught the Truthburn.

I ran across these guys searching weird weapon designs.
I'm sure now I saw a video of them from a long time ago.

It's worth mentioning that one of the weapons used a flame speaker to kill.
The french were doing research with low frequency sirens and stopped (so they say) due to internal bleeding problems in spite of shielding.
I have seen sound systems lately producing these levels, especially at the nexus point between two speakers.
There are limits to the human body.
Fair warning.

I'd love to catch one of these shows.

Reminds me of Tesla's osculation experiments where he discovered that if you amplify the frequency of a certain material you could literally shake an object to pieces. He proved this by disintegrating metals into shards using only amplified sound. There is rumor that he once had such an experiment go out of control and almost shook his NYC apartment to rubble. I love Tesla.

My guess is that the local cacos tend to look down on the burn as a "sell-out" or watering down of the spirit t hey brought to it. It could be a sort of hyper-splitting in the service of identity, though.

That's why nobody goes to Burningman anymore. Attendance last was down to - what? - three of four lonely souls...

there is a sound weapon on the market, from a San Diego company. It was used on a cruise ship a year ago or so to repel pirates or terrorists from Somalia. It works.. http://www.thought-criminal.org/article/node/1320

Thermite, in nano sized form becomes an explosive. This is a military grade substance. We used "normal" thermite on the TruthBurn sculpture.
