Bike transport
I have heard rumors of a "bike truck" that can transport bikes to the Playa. I live in San Francisco - is this for real? Not sure how I am going to get my bike there this year since my ex has taken in the past. PLEASE - I need help!

Just get a bike rack that fits on your car. You can pick up one that will fit pretty much any sedan or hatchback at an outdoor or sports supply store, or online, like this for example

and that was just the first thing that came up on google.
I bought a THULE model last year from an outdoor/sports store which only set me back about $45. If you don't want to spend that much look on craigslist.
Or, of course, just make friends with someone who's bringing a truck.

bike transport . . .
My first burn - my campmates and I put our bicycles on a "bike transport" trailer with about 20 other bikes. They never made it to the playa and we experienced Black Rock City on foot - not really a bad thing at all, but it did teach me a valuable lesson about self reliance.
Not to conflict with the above post but a friend of mine and I are considering offering such a service, from the Seattle area. Haven't made up our minds yet but we've got access to a big trailer and a rig to pull it. We could probably put 100 or so bikes on it and at $30 a bike it would cover a big portion of our respective burns. While providing a service it's obvious some would appreciate.
OTOH, it would be a big pain in the ass and arguments can be made that the very notion conflicts with some major burning credos. Both self reliance and commerce on playa. Even if no cash exchanged hands there, the back half of a service that was bought and paid for with cash would happen there. Leaving me feeling mixed about the notion. Knowing that flames will be ignored or met with returning fire (but have little impact on the actual decision) what do folk think about the *concept* of such a bike delivery, and return, service?

Sounds like a good service, but a metric buttload of work. Tagging the bikes, making sure the proper owners pick up the proper bikes and that no "found" strays hitch a ride back after the event, that all the bikes make it back for the return ride. Feasible, but I envision much paperwork.
Heheheheeeeee ... that, or you'll have a trailer full of bikes to "rent."

my camp already offers that service to Seattle area Burners. it's work, but it's a lot less than a metric ton of work.
you have a trailer that you think will fit 100 bikes??? thing must be HUGE. we've got an 8' x 20' trailer for the bikes and our capacity is 50 MAX.
message me offlist if you want info about shipping your bike.
