Art Car Repellent Camp is back this year as the Get Lit Asylum. Our goal is to promote nighttime safety by handing out glowsticks to help people stay visible. If anyone has anything they could donate to us in the Reno area, it would be GREATLY appreciated. Also, if you are an experienced burner who would like to camp with us, collaborate with us, or just get in contact in some way that would be awesome. I requested plenty of space so we could spare room for people who would like to participate in a theme camp this year.
Here is a list of things we could use:
cinder blocks
large pieces of plywood
glowsticks or a $10 glowstick donation
rebar
trash recepticles (large trashcans)
tarp

I strongly suggest blinking LED glowstick replacements with replaceable batteries.
Glowsticks are just not bright enough out there.

Spent Glo-sticks are number one moop on my morning pickup..

If they are a "darkwad" to start with, They will discard hand outs..

I've read some of the best advice and life philosophies in port a potties.

Oh, and we provide a special glow recepticle for people to come by and drop off dead glowsticks

If they're a darkwad they probably won't accept the gift in the first place.

Other than that we do find a lot of virgins who are just clueless about safety. We always make sure to remind people to properly dispose of their sticks (I wake up still wearing mine most of the time

) and tell them that they can come discard them at our camp if needed.

And I always pick up moopy glowsticks too. The thing is that they're a lot cheaper than LED. We're working with a very low budget this year.

There are some based on micro flashlights that are very cheap and it's much cheaper over a week than glowsticks.
Go to the makers and ask for a discount.
Most are aware of burning man.

Glowsticks just aren't bright enough anyway.

I picked up a bunch at WalGreens..

Plan to use them in a mirrored shadow box flashing down to the ground under my ride.

Got a Dollar Tree or Michael's craft store near by? Multipacks of 6-8 sticks or bracelets at $ Tree (generally in toy section), and I just found packs of 15 bracelets for a buck each at Michael's with their 7/4 party stuff!

I've had to pay for showers b4 but never a crapper.
Uh, wait a minute, I have to pay out the ass for gas, so when I take a dump in their restroom maybe I am paying for it

Anyone old enough to recall the Whites and Colored signs over the gas station restrooms? They weren't supposed to be doing it anymore, but I remember them at a pit stop in Alabama when I was seven.

I was 13 and on the bum hiching through Ga. There was a bill board with the city name and below it was: "N" don't let the sun set on your head..

Sadly UnJon I left my kid status behind way too many yrs ago. Growing up in northern Michigan in the 60's and 70's I don't recall ever running across any pay crappers. And being as Lily white as it was, I also dont recall ever seeing any white/colored signs, but then again, it could be alzheimers.

I forget.

I do recall paying for showers in Put in Bay. That's our version of Adult spring break in Lake Erie if ur not familiar with it.

The Greyhound station in Memphis, TN, which hasn't changed since the 60's, still has pay toilet stalls in the mens room, they just aren't in service anymore. A dime to take a dump is too much to pay, especially back in those days. I've heard there are still places in the South with "whites only" water fountains.

I've definately seen pay toilets. I know I did in England in the 70s, but since then in the states as well. Rare, but I've seen them. Of course, there are the pay french toilets in the city, but I don't know if they count. I've even been to toilets with attendants.

I've never had to pay for a toilet or a shower but there have been times when I'm sure I would have been willing to.

Bracelets are cheap, but I like the good quality or army surplus glowsticks on a string. The don't fall off easy because you can tie them onto anything ( like my braids last year)

I'll check out the situation on the lights. I remember getting a really good deal from one website. I think it was like free shipping or something for burners.

Hi there - am definately willing to help out. Never saw the get lit section before my virgin trip and was very grateful for a neighbor who gifted some lite so that i could get around safely. So got extras and be happy to help out if room in camp or just to stop by and say hi.
