What kind of music would you prefer to hear out on the playa

I loved hearing Dead Can Dance (bellydancing music) out there one morning. Snday morning packing it up, drinking coffee- a couple making out frenzy on the ground 20 feet away, the last art cars waving banners and no wind....breath/timeless...
BUT BRC wouldn't have a "soundtrack" without the (((OONTZA-OONTZA))) thump at night. I prefer Hard Rock in the default. When got back this year, listened to XM Radio's electronica stations for about two weeks...just...reminded...me

Last year was my first. I'll agree there was too much electronic music, but that's not being very specific.

There was too much Psy-trance! I enjoyed it sometimes, but other times I felt like I couldn't escape it.

I looked all week for some French House, but with no luck. Where can I gets some French House?!?!

I really enjoyed the music the Opulent Temple played last year with the huge bass that vibrates your guts, gives you a full body massage, lifts your feet slightly above the ground and vibrates the fillings in my teeth. I'm an old man but that kept me dancing throught the full moon, meteor shower and right past the sunrise. I can only do that stuff once a year.

Bluegrass, Dixieland, Folk, Celtic, Blues, Surfing Instrumentals, Big Bands, Rock-a-billy, Opera.... Anything but the soul-less repetitive mind-numbing over-loud electronic thumping.

I dare claim that nine out of ten burners I talk to want less thumping and more music. We ought to make ourselves... uh... heard.

And live accoustic music is OF COURSE the best kind -- without regard to musical style.

Today's slightly abstract thought: The volume knob on a powerful amplifier is to be used like the accelerator pedal in a powerful car. 99 percent of the time we cruise gently along at low power, enjoying the broad torque band (=good sound quality). Then, once in a while, we open'er up for a short blast as a special treat (Grieg's In The Hall Of The Mountain King, anyone?).

KSR Camp will not be able to have a "music department" like I brain-stormed about last fall, but I'm definitely in favor of more variety and less volume.

Live and original and just cool. Like at Jazz camp or center camp, often.

Or just live and original. Failing that live and covers are OK, most often when it's via karaoke and folk are having lots of fun with it. But live, with real human beings actually making the music fits my tastes for the burn.

One thing I seem to recall from many years past was that someone had a synthesizer which he played or left on automatic. The arena near this instrument, however, was littered with various car parts and an assortment of broken drumsticks. People who "got it" squatted down with the car parts and hammmered away in accompaniment.

So the short answer is, music that encourages participation, or music that everyone can make themselves, or music that goes real good with E.

I'm getting a solar charger for my iPod so I can give my ears a rest from the thumpa thumpa. I fucking hate techno. My favorite dance club in BRC is The Temple of Funk. Now that's dance music!

I run a disc player off a solar..
Found there was not enough current to keep up.. So I went to Batteries Plus and had a rechargable battery pack made up..
Then put it line with solar panel..

For day time only you can get a panel for around 14$ at Harbor Fart..

Motorola has an interesting battery pack that can be plugged into phones or anything with usb plugs such as bluetooth to run or recharge batteries.
It uses lithium, about 1600 mah I think.

I agreeâ€¦ too much psy-trance and goa-trance, etc for my personal tastes. But so it goes in BRC. .

Easing a bit down the BPM scale into some good solid Deep House would be fine by me. And any French House thrown into the mix is generally pretty swell. (Elliot, Heh Heh Heh. I am so very sorryâ€¦ I know that simply using the above terms will cause me to fall a bit from grace in your eyesâ€¦ but I must confess that I do enjoy electronic music. I hope you can find it in your heart to, if not forgive me, at least overlook this character trait. Iâ€™ll try to use more copper in my projects to make up for it?? Please???)

I have to agree with Mr. Noir's assessment. I like it all, maybe the electronica gets old, but it is a little like a pulse. Hearing the heart beat of the dusty mother home.

What I would like to hear is more of the "Father knows best" thingy I heard last year on Friday or Saturday morning radio. Something about "God made that excretion for one purpose..." and "The most wonderful part of the mommy" It was a Mr. Cleaver talks to Wally thing, but not really. I laughed so hard an antler came out of my nose.

Anybody else hear that? (my camp mates heard it too, so no, it wasn't the whisky talkin')
