Moved

Post by themom » Sat Feb 14, 2004 8:13 pm

Decided it is time to move to New Theme Camp Ideas. We really think that this idea CAN fly and we are going to try to make it happen. The reaction and support we received here was enough to let me know to follow the idea and see where we can take it. New topic is BLACK ROCK BOTANICAL. Hope to see you all there...or at least in the great beyond of BRC.

What a strange thread. I assume it's a continuance of another thread? What's your new camp idea? What the hell do we do with a Thread called moved?

I recently moved. Yeah, into the Mission in S.F. Love it here. No need for a car (which I killed out in the desert last year ...) Everything's in walking distance and the people are interesting.

For 2004, I'm not sure where I'm moving in Black Rock City. Last year was 8 O'Clock, perhaps the other side of the city this year. Will most likely have a camp at Chupacabra headquarters and another secret getaway camp somewhere obscure.

I wonder if we'll ever get a DPW camp together. There's suppopsed to be the ghetto, but generally everyone splits off into their various clusters.

Mom's

Post by Mayfield » Mon Feb 16, 2004 3:15 pm

Yeah, I just found out that she's AG's Mom. That's Trey cool. Haha.

Like I told her in a private message, we can work with Moved (and not just cuz she's AG's mom). There's moving in the other world and moving on to new theme camps or areas of the city and being moved by something. But then as I also told her, I haven't been posting on the eplaya for about a year, so I'm looking for excuses to post ... DOH!

I was moved by a friend calling me up recently, expressing fear and remorse with his/her drinking. I was stoked that she/he thought to call me and we're currently on a not drinking jag. I'm feeling healthier and have stopped falling off the bed and down stairs ...

It's kind of trippy being sober in social situations. I get somewhat nervous and insecure.

Someone just told me that I might not want to post that, but I've always felt that the Eplaya is only as good as people are frank. (or paul)

Likewise moved...

Post by Last Real Burner » Mon Feb 16, 2004 6:05 pm

Welcome back Mayfield, we certainly missed ya.... 8)

I too have been moved to swear off on drinking and smoking (herb that is, I haven't smoked fags since '84). What a different world being sober is. I still find myself wanting to fall back into the old groove but I resist. I promised myself I wouldn't smoke another joint or have a drink until I landed on the playa. Talk about inspiration, not to mention it would add a whole year to the equation if I don't make the '04 burn. I figured it's time to get serious about my life, and as I looked at all the things I thought were contributors to my lack of success, drinking and drugs floated to the top. So I made the leap and took my dick in my hands and moved forward. The clarity is astounding. One thing I have noticed is the number of people that are in my general circle that do smoke pot that I never knew did (you can smell them 10' away, something else I didn't realise [note to self])

Clear Head

Post by Mayfield » Tue Feb 17, 2004 2:27 pm

Yeah, It's nice having a clear head and not fucking shit up so much. My vocabulary is coming back and I'm saving money. plus, I'm looking forward to being more aware of my time in BRC and retaining more of the experience. I've always had a blast there and running the bar was fookin' great, but it would always be a whirlwind tour with whole days being retained as a blur. plus the health issues - they suck. I'm 35 now and the body starts to rebel.

Good to hear you're on the wagon as well. The more the merrier. I'm not into AA so I'm stoked to have friends in my community who are checking it out as well.

Ginger Ale ain't that bad.

Yo Mayfield! Doc here! I'm in the middle of my annual 30-day sobriety while training for the L.A. Marathon next month. We were pondering your fate on Trey's "3playa"; you should stop by there and check in, your friends are worried about their little lost sheep. See you in August ye olde Mohawkish one.

Hey DOC! Good to hear from you! Yeah, I need to check in over there, I've been all tied up with my girlfriend and work, not a bad situation at all.

I didn't know you ran the LA marathon as well. You wear a gasmask?

As for being moved, I wouldn't cal it the most moved I've ever been, that'd be hard to judge. However I was very moved by the experience of working for DPW pre event and the event itself my first year out on the playa. i had so much fun and met so many great people that it was incredibly refreshing. Especially after a few years in LA working a straight job with most of my good friends living up in Santa Cruz where I had moved from. LA sucked and Burning Man simply rocked.

Hey Mayfield, what's up? I heard you had quite a housewarming party. If only I'd have known (and lived about 950 miles further south).

yeah, it was a blast. Badger, Pyrokitten, R-pod, Tiara, Dyna-lite, Michelle and a host of others showed up with DPW in the mix and we raged most all night. Would have been great to see you but yeah, you are kinda far away Eh? Ya hoser.

A gentleman from the eplaya showed up and introduced himself to me and damned if I can't remember his name.

My new housemates rolled with the crazyness pretty well. Although their friends seemed a little scared ...

Thanks DVD for the vote. Don't really want to move...but seems like my friend Mayfield needs a spot. I'm counting on meeting Mayfield and all of you who have supported my being here. Of course, I'll let everyone know where to find us, and plan to share good times on the playa. We are beginning to realize...our giant plan for a HUGMUNGOUS garden are probably not going to come to fruition....but have some ideas about a small garden from another world. Would love to hear ideas on plants that grow feet, or rocks, or leather whips, or stars, or pies or ....you get the idea.

HEY Blenderhead!
Yeah, you're the one! Thanks for the Booze! I was totally blown away at the wonderful house warming gifts, there was at least 4 bottles brought in, I think mostly from your crew. You all rock.

Mom, awwww heck, I don't need a thread all to myself. I can share.

Moovin on up to the East Side

Post by TheMuse » Mon Feb 23, 2004 2:26 pm

Im moving to Oakland this weekend from Mountain View. While I do have movers moving my gargantuan load of crap, overseeing the whole operation is SURE to be taxing. So which beer do you all think I should stock the fridge with to ensure maximum relaxation?

Muse: It is FAT TIRE hands down, unless your MOVERS are light weights. Then your guess is as good as mine. But I do know, if we don't all begin to feel MOVED to get back to playa business.....they just might MOVE us OUT O' HERE.

Playa Related: I've mostly camped at 8 o'clock, however, one year we camped at 4:30 and seemed to notice less airbourne playa. I've often heard debates about which side of the city is better and I'm still undecided. Does anybody have opinions and/or experiences you'd like to share?

I've camped in center camp, 8:00ish for two years, and 4:00ish for three
years. Except the bits that are directly downwind from the entrance road,
everything's pretty evenly dusty.
