The weather's nice, but Reno's had this weird series of small earthquakes for the past month or two. They died out for a while, but we just had five decent sized ones in the past two days.

Cold and windy here in Northern Utah. I've run the furnace more than the swamp cooler this May, and June seems no better.

I think you can leave the north out of that statement. It was snowing here a half hour ago, and I am in the south half of the state. When it is not snowing, it is raining heavily. The river is about as high as I have seen it, but no damage like that happening east of the rockies.

This morning the hills all around are white about 100 feet elevation above me. It looks like we were just below the snowline for the night.

Tornado Alley could be open for business later today. The Storm Prediction Center guys in Norman, OK have cornland under a moderate risk for shit to hit the fan.

A MODERATE THREAT OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL EXIST THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE OUTLOOK AREA. THE HIGHEST THREAT OF SEVERE WEATHER WILL EXIST AFTER 4 PM THIS AFTERNOON EAST OF A GENEVA NEBRASKA TO RED CLOUD NEBRASKA TO PLAINVILLE KANSAS LINE. STRONG ATMOSPHERIC WIND SHEAR IN COMBINATION WITH A VERY UNSTABLE AIRMASS WILL ALLOW THESE STORMS TO QUICKLY BECOME SEVERE WITH EXTREMELY LARGE HAIL UP TO THE SIZE OF BASEBALLS POSSIBLE ALONG WITH DAMAGING WINDS UP TO 70 MPH. IN ADDITION...CONDITIONS WILL BE FAVORABLE FOR ONE OR TWO ISOLATED TORNADOES DURING THE LATE AFTERNOON TO EARLY EVENING. HEAVY RAIN MAY ALSO PRODUCE SOME AREAS
OF FLASH FLOODING DURING THE EVENING TO EARLY OVERNIGHT HOURS.

SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

SPOTTERS WILL LIKELY BE NEEDED AFTER 4 PM THIS AFTERNOON AND LASTING INTO THE EVENING OVER PORTIONS OF SOUTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA AND NORTH CENTRAL KANSAS...ESPECIALLY EAST OF A GENEVA NEBRASKA TO RED CLOUD NEBRASKA TO PLAINVILLE KANSAS LINE.

EMERGENCY MANAGERS...LAW ENFORCEMENT AND SPOTTER GROUPS SHOULD MAKE PREPARATIONS NOW FOR QUICK DEPLOYMENT THIS AFTERNOON.

When I climb the grain bins I can see Geneva, NE so this is right over top of us.

I shut off the pilot light on the furnace a few weeks ago and refuse to relight it. I can survive 60 degree indoor temperatures until it heats up.

My tomatoes and peppers need more sun though!

It can get rather interesting out here....

Image

Got turbulence?

Image

The storms can start out small...but next thing you know they look like the monster way in the background that was 70 miles distant. This is what's meant by isolated storms...today won't be so picturesque.

Sixty sounds real good right now.
Can you send me some of that?
It cooled off and still in the nineties.
And humid.

Well... a Sheriff's Deputy and I got to watch this storm try and spin up to speed and not get it done....

Image

Fortunately it didn't drop a tornado but....there are some disturbing reports of a Boy Scout camp in Iowa being obliterated by storms. At least the forecast calls for things to quiet down for a few days. There's a lot of us out here who could use a break from the rain.

:x Temps back in the triple digits this week in northern california. Red Flag days due to wind and low humidity. Large grassfires to the North ,South and East of me. Orchardists pulling out acres and acres of stressed fruit trees. Lots of talk about changing crop types and varieties. Farmers know that weather cycles determine what we eat. Due to Salmonella outbreaks No tomatoes are offered in restaurants, vine-ripe and cherry tomatos are available in chain groceries. It will be a good year for truck gardens and food-coop farmers markets. I hear midwest corn is a write-off, farmers switching to soy. I hope the Agricultural Department has disaster planners in Homeland security. This national food emergency IMHO is a greater and more immediate need than anything over in the sandpile. Time to bring the National Guard back home. Plant your victory gardens now, there still is time. On a side point that may be related, who are the nameless foreign investors who are speculating on oil markets? Are they the same folks who pumped up the housing bubble and the internet bubble before that? And how can we stop this economic warfare? Are we to have a food bubble after this oil bubble? Bubble boil cauldron bubble, who's the cause of all this toil and trouble.Hummmmm? Saataan?

Lake Dellton Wisc. is all but gone from flooding after an earth dam broke..

My grandfather and his half brother settled just west of "Dellton".. They cleared 10 section of farm land.. The family farm "1/2 section" is still in operation..

The city of Dellton was moved to higher ground (renamed Lake Dellton) and a dam was put in it's place.. The dam formed a nice lake and powered a large grain mill for many years.. Tim's Mill burned in the late 50's.. It took almost a year for the fire to burn it's self out.. My Grandfathers brother built a two story brick home on an island he had made in the lake.. The lake was use a a tourist spot with tour boats and beaches.. Many of my family live and work in the area.. It appears on national TV that there is little to nothing left of the whole city.. I have not been able to speak with any of the family sence the flood..
