What if the must sees were people on playa? Would that be different?

Because my must sees has more to do with people out there
than it does for the Art that brought them.

Umm... aside from some really dedicated DPW, no one at Burning Man actually lives in the Black Rock Desert. As such, we are all a bunch of fucking tourists and should stop saying the word with such disdain. Just because my 'tour' has been in the same place every year since I was 19 doesn't mean I'm not a tourist too.

I believe the use of 'tourist' is to distinguish one who watches from one who participates rather than anyone laying claim to permanent BRC residency. Most of the posts in this thread have been downright supportive by eplaya standards so lighten up and have some fun. You might get a useful suggestion.

You can't help but be in awe of the Tesla Coil.

We missed the theramins last year.

As you're walking along at night I like to watch the lasers in the night sky, dancing in the dust or the fire smoke.

Geez, I don't know...there probably won't be anything interesting to see out there. I think I'll just play it safe and make s'mores so I can be in bed by 8PM. Plus, interacting/walking around/keeping eyes open is just, well, so much work 8)...

Great idea, unfortunately Dance Dance Immolation won't be at Burning Man this year. They are taking time off from DDI to work on other projects.

You must see yourself. Every night before you pass out, every day when you wake up. You must see yourself before the event, and yourself after the event. You might even see some differences. :)

And thanks for the inclusion, Teo, but Shady Tower won't be coming back to the playa this year. After the abuse she got last year I just didn't want to bring her back and have to protect her, to my limited ability, again.

Would it be fun to put together a Black Rock City Tourist Office and Rotary? Thanks for volunteering Mozy!

Wasn't there a tourist bureau through the airport?
Seem to remember something like that.

It's worth going just to see so many people smiling.

It's nice to be in a world where everyone grins!

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully the abuse was from Mother Nature and not frat boyz.

Nah it was from burners. We had folk, literally, pissing on the grass all week. Among other things....

Ron, do you see a correlation between the pissers and the explosion in population we had last year? Not trying to continue, necessarily, the more-people- equals- bigger-yahoo-factor theme, but I wonder if we are experiencing some dilution through unchecked growth?

Not really, why bother? I wouldn't have said anything here but it came up. We got to the event about four days early last year and we hadn't been on playa an hour before a neighbor had pissed all over the trailer hitch we had to grab to move the trailer around. When I asked him not to piss in our home he told me he'd piss where he liked and if I didn't like it all of DPW would come down and piss in our camp. He and I had an ongoing discussion. :)

Then, *every* day we'd have to deal with someone pissing in or on Shady Tower. It's not the frat boys, it's not the weekends, it is us. Us burners who get drunk and selfish. So this year, rather than fighting the tide, I just decided not to bring her. And I'm very much looking forward to going to the burn without a major art installation that I feel I have to protect from burners.

I believe that Manzanar and Topaz are both on the Amerikan Pride tour itinerary. Don't miss it!

Not really. I got in a fist fight with a guy who couldn't be bothered to either cross the street to the porta potties, or turn around, and insisted on pissing on her in 2006 and have had problems getting folk to take their shoes of every year since 2003. It's not that the event has changed, from my POV, it's that I'm just tired of bringing a gift there and either having to play cop to protect it or watch as folk piss all over it. "It's not you, BRC, it's me." ;)
