I believe no gate sales will cut down the yahoo factor. Asshat frat shits that hear about BM on monday because of an article or news clip.

I hope you're right. Do you know if ticket sales have been cut off yet? Has BMORG announced to us unwashed deadbeats who actually pay for and create the event known as Burning Man whether there is a population cap this year?

Yes there is. Last year was so much bigger than the permit allows that they are capping attendance. I don't know at what #, however.

I remember years in which the question was, where on the playa is BRC? Without a map you'd get lost on the open playa.

This year, it looks like the playa IS BRC. If they didn't cap population, it would overflow onto the surrounding desert clear back to Gelach.

so, what is the population cap gonna be? Was that ever announced? Suppose BLM docs are public records and mabe could find it that way.

Are they still selling tickets currently? I wonder if the $1.50 per gallon increase in gas will impose a type of natural-selection population cap. Perhaps, but probbly wont cut down on ass-hat factor as those guys are coming to BM from short distances, I suppose.

Im just talking to my self.

It will be better next year!! Wait...thats not right

You must see the drama happening all around you. Funny stuff if you are removed from it. umm, whats the German word for enjoying others misery? I think of it as a "Scared Straight" video for getting along with others. I was overhearing some guy ranting at his campmates about USING ALL THE GOOD F'ING TEA. A passing child says "Mommy, he needs a nap." I thought I would die laughting. Camp set up and Camp tear down are the best times to see the worst.

Its a vacation, let it go.

Teo,
The event is actually capped at 6% growth per year, to a maximum population of 47,500 in 2010. Which means the cap is significantly lower than 50k this year. Based on the 2005 count of 35,500 folks, it looks like the cap is about 42,300 for 2008.

This is a bit of a cross post. I posted the links to the permit and environmental report in the thread about "encouraging ticket scalpers?" In "tickets 2008".

The 2005 number of 35,500 was the agreed upon base line number in the permit.

thanks for the info chief...

wonder what the repercussions were, if any, from that almost 10k jump in population last year?

HOPEFULLY, it will not be so damn crowded this year.

Maybe the smart question would be "what are you looking forward to seeing this year?"

Perhaps more accurately, "who" am I looking forward to seeing this year:

AntiM, Teo del Fuego, Ugly Dougly, chiefdanfox, thecryptofishist, mdmf007, intubator, Ron, thirt33n, MozyBonz, espressodude, ClarkCON, accodianman, gyre, the whole Boobie Bar and Apokoliptika crew, Moonshine Tavern Crew, the Coffee Camp crew, all the greeters, lamplighters, artists, lovers, dreamers, . . . the list goes on.

Point being, the PEOPLE make the event, more so than the sights of the event. Without the people, BRC would be *gasp* a desert. :)

wait, wait wait.......so you're saying my
"asshat frat shirt" collection needs to be left at home?
i dont have anything thats as "slimming" in the heat, and a prerequisite for 'asshhat frat shirt" sexy is pasty beer-gut-ness.......and never a thought of a sit-up, ever.......so now i'll have to start my own burning man, with the only camps being
"manboobs or flapjacks?"
"welcome to loserville, population you"
"awesome poetry jam 93 pt2"
and of course, myself incoherant in a lounge chair with a "mystery" stain underneath, tattered and soiled asshat frat shirt w/matching visor, bleeding barbwire bic pen tat, crumpled ego stuffed inside a pbr can, and no hope for an accurate census.

its worth seeing, maybe even more so than guys in furry pants.....

Me too, but I WILL be at the meetNgreet this year, albeit a little late, I'm working in the cafe until 7 on Thursday but as soon as my shift is over I'm icing down the beers and heading over to BDC&WB. :)

I always miss the Meet N Greet, but at least this year I have a good excuse. My friends are getting married thursday night and I'm a groomsmen. Can't really miss that, but I'll be at bdc in spirit.

Oops! I got sidetracked with excitement from thinkin' about the M-n-G.
Hmmm, must sees:

1st timers:
1.) Astral Headwash, about mid week. Get a clean scrubbing of your doo...heaven and Earth momentarily collide.
2.) Thunderdome at night. Usually right on the Esplanade. Human's in primal instinct mode mixed to Nine Inch Nails. Two man enter - Two man goes and gets a beer and first aid.
3.) Art Car Hopping all night long. Just see how many locations/miles you can cover. Slow moving cars are great if you want to shoulder roll off. Don't forget to bring gifts for the drivers (cookies, quesadillas, mini-shot bottles, etc.)

For myself:
1.) See what kind of art I can create.
2.) All the faces :D
3.) Deeper inside

by the way.....
what, if any, etiquette is involved in getting on an art car for a ride?..........do you ask permission or just see if they punch you when you try?........
I can imagine all are different, but, at least it'd be a start......
