Or you can trust in serendipity. Pick a spot and throw down a tent. You will have four or five new friends within ten minutes.

I just posted about our group in the I.E. in this thread.

http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic. ... highlight=

There are lots of different types that attend so do some research on different camps. We do a lot of events throughout the year. Some we organize others we just participate in. Check the link I posted for links and more info. :)

Does this really happen. I to am coming this year as a virgin and have no clue where I am going to stay or how to find a camp. Bad thing is I am coming from Jax, FL. So I have no way to go to meetings or events before hand.

What LilBuddha said is true - when you get there, choose a likely spot, then go talk to the neighbors. You really have nothing to fear. We are jungle camp (not a theme camp) at 5:45 and F (look for the palm trees). Come say hi and feel free to set up your camp somewhere nearby.

Be sure to read the Survival guide.

Yeah, just about everything really happens at Burning Man.

If you get there and you feel lost, find Center Camp. You'll do fine. If you don't, check the bulletin board near Center Camp for a message about "Catharticus." Find our camp and somebody there will help you.
There are no predators in our circle. (We're not a formal camp this year so I don't know what kind of space we'll have, but, we'll help you no matter what.)

You still have to be careful, but, the best advice any old burner told me was, "Just go look around. You'll find what you're looking for, but it won't be what you thought it was, you won't know you were looking for it until you find it."

If you find where Cartharticus is camped, ask for Gatt. If you're thirsty, bring a cup.

Nothing settles the nerves like a nice cup of tea and some biscuits.
We don't have our placement yet, but The Bomb Bay Tea Room should be a grand place to find your bearings. Drop in for a cuppa!

Synchronous and serendipitous things seem often to happen there.

Two years ago we brought a girl with us who was a virgin that year. She had her birthday on Wednesday of the week, so Karine decided to bake her a cake. As she was doing this, we found out that directly across the street was a lady who was also having her birthday that day. Cool, right? She was from Argentina and her family had brought her for her first time that year as well… even cooler!! Two newbies with the same birthday who unknowingly camped right across from each other.

But then we found out the coolest part.

The girl in our camp was born in 1981... It was her 25th birthday.
The lady from Argentina was born in 1925... It was her 81st birthday.

From far away, they each came to the playa to celebrate these extraordinary birthdays together at their first burn. Only as in the advice that ZaphodBurner passed on, they just didn’t know it until they got there. There was cake all around.

Just another day on the playa.

I think it might have been the same year I was driving from Minnesota pulling a travel trailer. I was stuck on the side of a mountain in Wyoming with a burned up wheel bearing on the trailer. Fifteen minutes later LeChat coming from Kentucky comes along and offers a hand. We’d known each other from this board and my companion had been in contact with LeChat’s girl friend in Salt Lake but still it was pretty dam magical, just another Burning Man synchronicity.

One of my favorite story from BRC involves a Birthday and a cake.

Soooooo our friends were packing up to leave- And there is this Big Cake and Mona says "any one want this Cake " the whole group told her NO no no no.... sooooo she Is gonna THROW it in the Garbage "last chance"
I say ohhhhh "I'll take it down to Boys Camp (Blackies Bar and Grill)"

I put it on the table with a knife and I come Back and this girl is standing crying over the CaKe .... " Are you alright " I ask- her friend says that its her Birthday and she was JUST saying that All she needed was A CAKE

Soooooo we found a candle and all gathered around to sing her Happy BIRTHDAY!!
If I were to wish ANYTHING I'd wish I were ME!!
