Jewish burners from all over the world?
Hello there, I have done quite abit of searching, but still can't seem to find if there is a theme camp that does shabbat on Friday night, or is there just a fun group of Jewish burners out there? I am a nice Jewish girl in the hopes of connecting with other Jewish burners from around the world. Israel? Spain? USA? Anywhere!
Peace,
Rachel

we do have a temple, it is reformed.
very reformed.
very very reformed.
ok, we burn it. But not in a bad way.
and the playa does taste alot like lightly salted matzo, so you should feel comfort in the fact that even the bacon at burning man is Kosher, and the goy are too drunk to notice that the man has a HUGE gold star hanging around his wooden neck, right in between his mass of curly, manly chest hair.
they call him Bernie.

Rachel, I've attended shabbat services Friday night (duh) the past two years on the playa. They were held, as I recall, at the temple of tears, or whatever it's called each year.
But as a nice Jewish boy, I would be happy to invite you to come by my little slice of paradise on the playa: Barbie Death Camp & Wine Bistro. And we even let the goyim in if they behave themselves.

Like Dr. Pyro said, there are Shabbat services out there. When we get closer to the actual event I'd start looking at the playa calendar for time & place (it might start before sundown):

Is there a real world flavor of "Cel Ray"? Cause I never tried it, I figured celery soda was not something I have to experience. Was I wrong?

Celery Soda
Take it from a goy...Celery Soda is the shit. It's usually hard to find, but I work in kosher country, so it's all over here. Most people determine they don't like it before trying it, and then it becomes true. Keep an open mind, and you'll be hooked. Yay Dr. Brown's!

So it really is celery? (This is a burning man board, so I have to be certain.) I'll have to go to the local Noah's Bagels (it's actually the first) and see if they stock that flavor.
too fucking wierd.

Don’t know…
P.S. I have Jewish blood… no hard feelings if my post seems rude.

i just have to hop on this one as it one of my pet peeves.
"Jewish Blood"
what the fuck does that Mean?
there are Black Jews, White Jews, Asian Jews, Hispanic Jews, Jews who live in Igloos, New Jersey Jews, and Even Blue Man Jews...
do you have Episcopalian Blood?
so you have Hindi, or Buddhist or even Scientological Blood?
no....they are RELIGIONS, they are not a RACE.
if you do not adhere or practice the religion then you are not that "ism" or "ish"
my father's family, some practiced judaism, some didnt. My mother is roman catholic.
I am not a Jew by anyones standards and resent anyone who defines me as such for it is disgustingly racist and dates back to the passion of Mel Gibson and other such Vatican nonsense.
the "curse of the jews" because they chose Barrabas is a Hoax, and a lie.
I for one will stand up and shout this bullshit down whenever it rears it's ugly head, and you can call me a self hating jew all you want, it's horsepuckey, and it aint fucking kosher in my book.
now, with that said, who wants to go for a nice spritz and then after, a nosh..

as an FYI I had to have my jewish blood tested to make sure I wasnt a carrier for the disease tay-sachs which effects only jewish folks so...it would seem judaism is a teeny bit more than just a set of beliefs. OY!Simon of the Playa wrote:i just have to hop on this one as it one of my pet peeves.

So you're identifying yourself as a member of a specific race, which many consider to be racism in itself, yet you don't think there may be cultural similarities in your group, however defined?
I don't think race is a valid scientific concept with what is now known about genetics.
There are certainly many genetic markers in jewish groups of people, but that only means so much.
The concept of race dates back to eugenics theories and much false thinking.
It is said that in six generations, most people can trace a blood connection to someone else.
In 18, it becomes a mathematical certainty to anyone, anywhere.
I have no opinion about jewish women, but visiting europe I was shocked and amused at how many cultural stereotypes rang true, even in a short time.
The exception was france, which is misunderstood, I think.

racism is generalizing ANYTHING based on "race".
are jews a "race"?
if they are, you are also being "racist".
essentially "racist" is just being aware. racially prejudice is where the problem lies. where's the line?
if you, moshe, were running down the street with stolen property and the police spotted you, what race would they describe you as?
Teo's statement is opinion. (racial?)
...these are my opinions open for trashing...
p.s. i love everyone, don't forget.
p.s. edit, beat me to the punch gyre. smarty pants.
blow.
I started on this topic describing the physical nature of Judiasm which refutes simons idea of judaism as simply a religious belief system. I never said anything about "race" other than calling the "jewish women are hot but hard to be around", racist. Would you perfer the term "antisemetic", or "ignorant" or "being a fucking asshole"? Psuedo intelectual dissections of the etymology of words does nothing to change the fact of how people who talk about ethnic groups like that are a poison. Im always amazed at the ease with which this board slides into typical "other-bashing" of the society we pretend we are countering. This from a festival that porports to be one that accepts everyone as they are. I guess im guilty of ignorance too for expecting more from a festival whose utopia city is 99 percent white.gyre wrote:So you're identifying yourself as a member of a specific race, which many consider to be racism in itself, yet you don't think there may be cultural similarities in your group, however defined?
