I've found a clue!
I've found a clue!
And it's not the harry perve I've come to expect... I went through the photos on the main site starting with 1986, wasn't long till I came across a photo of Larry Harvey. He does exist!

like Santa, Larry doesn't really exist except as a construct to embody the qualities of intense chain-smoking and frequent bouts of self-doubt and introspection, cobbled together by art-history and pop-psych philosophical musings. In our highly competitive society, Larry is a symbol of our latent hope that an unskilled n'er-do-well can stumble upon a diamond and become famous and relatively well-off for life.
Of course, I've never met the guy, but from what I can tell from the documentaries and interviews I've seen, he is, in all honesty, a delightfully unpretentious true-blue intellectual who is fairly astonished at his change in fortune and the growth of BM. Maybe others should receive more fame and glory for their roles, like Michael Mikel, and Mr. James, but undeniably, he and his LLC members have done a great job thus far allowing the event to grow without compromising too awfully much.
This will be my 4th Burn, so old-timers may want to challenge what Ive said. That's fine.
