First time but ready, Northern Cali

Post by OxyCottn420 » Tue Jun 24, 2008 6:05 pm

This is gonna be my first year going to burning man. I'm going with a friend who went last year and 2 other friends that are new.We have built a giant geodesic dome. It's about the size of a house. Im just wondering what i should be ready for. Whats the cop situation? I really don't want to go to jail for being a staggering drunk or under the influence of crunk stuff.

p.s. sorry for the crap grammer

I think you'd have to be an asshole as well as drunk for them to ticket you. Other stuff--well, you're in rural Nevada and on federal land, all drug laws apply. Discretion is the watch word. Keep parafinalia out of sight, use out of sight and be aware that if they smell something they may persue. I'm not the best person to ask, as I'm not in the catagory of people for whom the information is important' there is plenty of information on this board. And law enforcement does read this board as well.

I've heard stories of Nevada cops being really cool, and plenty of them going out of their rights..It's best to keep i in your tent. Nevada loves a drunk, but can be real assholes if it's something they don't sell in their casinos

What does beng from CA have to do with one's drug habit?? The rest of us that live here and don't do drugs would like to tell you to take your stereotypes and shove it.

And the Drug laws in Nevada are the same as any other state since they are FEDERAL drugs laws...

OC,
I suggest you carry a box of Krispy Kremes with you. When the flatfoots try to pinch you, you drop the box and run away while they go for the rainbow sprinkles. It would be a little like Hipponemes' golden apple trick on Atalanta, only it is you, some cops and donuts. The significant issue is to NOT eat the donuts. This may prove difficult because of the munchies brought on by smoking grass.

It's no stereotype, it's a known fact that marijuana is more plentiful in Northern California than in almost anywhere else in the world. Smoking said marijuana does not necessarily constitute a "drug habit" either. You want drugs?? Here's your drugs!

A known fact? Riiiight... Where do you get your "facts"??
And even if that was true, Just because someone lives in that area does not mean they smoke.

THC is a DRUG. Plain and simple. You use a drug on a regular basis ("avid smoker of the herb"), you have a drug habit. You are a drug user.

I'll start with the "facts." This first one is hot off the presses:
http://www.latimes.com/news/printeditio ... 1606.story

From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emerald_Triangle

The Emerald Triangle refers to the three counties of Mendocino, Humboldt, and Trinity in Northern California, United States.

This region is also called Behind the Redwood Curtain, because the two major highways that connect these three counties, U.S. Route 101 and State Route 299, are narrow, winding and lined with tall redwood trees. This cuts the Emerald Triangle off from the rest of California.

Also refers to the three biggest marijuana producing counties in California and also the USA.

But of course anyone can put shit into Wikipedia, that doesn't make it a fact.

That's what the government says about it!
I know, I know, how could anyone trust the government right?

Yes, of course THC is a drug, (oh no!) just like caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol are. Like Grandma's heart medicine. There are drugs in the foods we eat, the tap water is "drugged" with fluoride is some parts of the country. And what's the first thing we all reach for when have a nasty case of the flu?? Why drugs of course! Even the most straight laced Baptist preacher in the bible belt gets good and snockered on Nyquil when he comes down with the sniffles! Chances are Badger, you yourself may have ingested a drug to help ease the pain of that splitting headache you had. We all have drug habits, and Starbucks junkie or heroin junkie you're still a drug user.

Image

ChiefDanFox, I just need to add beef jerkey and Cheez-its and the pyramid will be complete!

The stereotype was that just because you live in Northern CA meant that that you are a pot smoker. It had nothing to do with the area's production of weed.

I should of been clearer. When I speak of drugs, users, and drug habits, I'm talking about illegal drugs. Controlled substances.
And fluoride isn't a drug. *facepalm*

Some people in Amsterdam are having trouble with the new drug ban on tobacco.
They are used to mixing tobacco with marijuana and won't be able to smoke it after July 1st.
Marijuana will still be allowed.

I really love the Nederlands.

The term appears extensively throughout the novel Don't Stop the Carnival, by Herman Wouk, in which various characters gleefully partake of "elevenses" at every opportunity, usually accompanied by alcoholic beverages.
Elevenses (now correctly spelled by me). This was the reference. But Pooh liked his Honey on Bread, with condensed milk. I fucking hate Pooh.

The Hobbit, J. R. R. Tolkien, 1937. I thought this was the source of elevenses. I was wrong, but I might not be looking in the right passages. Couldn't find it in the LOTR books either, but I feel like I'm missing an old memory.

"Mealtimes, at least according to the Peter Jackson script adaptation of the novel, consist at least of the seven meals known as breakfast, second breakfast, elevenses, luncheon, afternoon tea, dinner and supper. Tolkien did say that Hobbits eat "at least six meals a day when they can get it", but he didn't give their names."

Wouk's book appeared in 1965.

I love me some CapBadger, but here's another slant on the issue;

Marijuana is not an "illegal" drug for tens of thousands of people who are prescribed it under California's medical marijuana law. I am aware of people who believe the use of medical cannabis has saved their lives. Among these are people who never used pot before being diagnosed with an illness they needed relief for.

Many, many studies as well as common sense tells us that although "illegal", marijuana is far less harmful than most "legal" intoxicants. The science is irrefutable, the politics need to catch up.....

Awww... Thanks for the love Mojo. :)

Ah yes, the medical pot debate. Sadly it IS still illegal. State laws do not overrule the federal laws in this matter.
Agreed. It is far less harmful than other drugs, but it's actually worse for you than cigarettes as far as lung cancer since pot is usually not smoked with a filter.

As far as people that believe the pot has saved their lives, there has been no study that I'm aware of that has proven anything other than a placebo effect at work ("I believe this will work, so it does").
