Camp for Parents

Post by J. Leisure » Mon Jun 30, 2008 4:47 pm

Looking into whether there is a camp or collection of parents that two mothers may be able to join. Mothers are parents to two 30 something children.

Thanks in advance.

It looks to me that a lot of camps might be a fit depending on their interests and any talents they might what to use or discover. would the kids be camping with them?

I will be camping with Deep End and thought it may be better off if Mom and friend camp elsewhere. I thought last year there was a camp that had a collection of parents.

Thanks,

J. Leisure there probably is a camp somewhere made up of other Burners parents, but you need to remember there is a lot more to your mother than just being your mother. She has other interests in the universe besides you, I’m sure you’ll be amazed by the woman that goes home with you. Not all Burners are in there twenties and thirties

2006 census

looks like those of us older have about the same numbers as you in your twenties and thirties don’t sell your mom short.

and some of the gals even ride in critical tits,......

Yeah, work on the reading skills ...

A camp with a collection of parents. Sighs and shakes head. Why not ask your Mom what type of camp she'd be interested in? Then peruse the camp listings this year. Or find local burners now who might want extra campmates. There's tons of camps, and no, I don't think there's a Mom Camp. But I wouldn't be surprised.

I'm 51 and camp with friends who are all in their 20s, maybe 30s. Mylarry isn't even 50 yet. And yes, my old boobs have seen Critical Tits, thank you.

Heh. This thread cracked me up. I can fully understand not wanting to have an inhibiting force around one's camp at the burn. I can also fully understand not wanting to watch one's mother get wild and crazy at the burn. Here's the rub, you hold the key to addressing both issues. Trying to find a camp to stow your parents in due to your own issues is a rube goldberg solution that reminds me, personally, of something you'd see on a sit. com.

The easier solution? Give yourself permission to grow up. If you're 30+ and still feeling inhibited by your parents a few days on playa with them might be just what you need. They are bags of flesh just like you. And if, you see them doing things that you don't like you have every right to *stop watching* them. Finally, if you just don't think you can camp with them and have a good time, take responsibility for that and, after they pick a camp, do the same. And pick a different one from them.

Really, there are lots of things you can do about your feelings. But expecting them to address how you feel isn't likely to help much. They are *your* feelings, after all, not necessarily your mother's.

Have fun and thanks for the giggle. I thought you were the mother as well, based on the first post. :)

No, my mom is not entitled to have any other identity than as my mother. She's not even allowed to be my sisters' mother. Just mine. I can stash her at "Not quite cool enough to camp with me Camp" if I want to. And I can go over to NQCETCWM Camp and ask her to do my laundry or cook my bacon! So there!

I'm a mom(8 year burner) taking my 18 year old(virgin) - she's stoked about finally experiencing the reality of BRC - she was around prep/build/themecamp energy all summer each year. The only person concerned about the whole thing is MY mom - "Aren't you afraid she'll cramp your style?" No, mom, I'm not any different on the playa than at home - there's just a lot more folks like ME!!!!! Next year I hope to take her, too....

Great responses each and every gosh darn one of you. Glad to see that everyone is so accepting and does not rush to judgement with limited information.

I will definitely recommend this message board to anyone that needs to be talked down to.

uh oh.
it's that pattern again.

someone signs on to eplaya, asks a reasonably good question, gets a handful of reasonably good answers, some great honest opinions, a few snarky remarks and then comes back with witty sarcasm and calls everyone condescending.

i'd think maybe these are the types who have trouble with any advice or requests or people generally disagreeing with them and beings as that's usually what mothers do,...no wonder camping with your mom sounds like a bad idea.

so, you have a sharp comeback for everything.....ready, set, go!

J. Leisure with the very limited information you offered us how can we help but rush to judgment. No one knows you here, you don’t even give a hint to what sex you may be, where your coming from, any details of what your mother and her friend might be interested in or their reasons for wanting to come to Burning Man, what they might need or what they might have to offer a camp. Reread the first post you made on the Board, doesn’t read like you want to dump them in some sort of gulag for safe keeping .

Give it another go with a little more information and you might get a more helpful response .

Wow,

I been trying to talk my parents into going to burning man with me for years. They never have because of health reasons that do not mingle well with dust and heat. But if they did we would have a blast. Of course they where the ones who taught me to go, explore, live and make sure there where things like burning man in my life. AND, I could get them to watch my kids (who are burners), one or two nights

Wow... Considering the way your initial post was worded, I actually thought you got some really good feedback that was surprisingly tame for eplaya.

I agree with Fishy. If my mom came to Burning Man with me I'd put her in that same NQCETCWM Camp... and she'd LIKE IT!!

of course, I only say that because she'd NEVER go to Burning Man.

tsk - she's so square

actually, she probably would like it.

and as far as "the pattern", yeah, last year I did the same thing. now that I understand the community I feel like a dork. please forgive me, oh, lady-who-was-gathering-a-bunch-of-plastic-bags-to-make-leaves-to-put-on-a-tree-that-I-just-KNEW-were-destined-to-blow-all-across-the-playa... for, I knew not what I was saying.
