Very Nice Tent - rated 60 MPH

i've been fortunate to purchse a tent rated for 60 MPH winds and up to 100MPH gusts. It is a Eureka K-2 tent which was designed to withstand the rigors of Mt Everest

The "four season" tent is very good for several reasons other than the wind tunnel tested design.

1) The tent can zip up tight as a drum, and no hot glue gunning requried.

2)It is roomy with a 48" headroom

3) sealed vestibule can act as a "dust lock" ... you crawl into the vestibule... drop your dusty dirty stuff (like a mud room) cloe up the flaps and THEN open your interior tent.

We are purchasing directly from "Bill the Tent Dude at Eureka. Ours will arrive next week. I'll set it up, take pics, etc

cost 279.00 plus shipping direct from eureka... for a 550 dollar expedition tent!

That looks like a nice tent.

From Eureka, I've been intrigued by the Assault Outfitter as a possible Burning Man tent.

It's modeled after tents they made for the military, designed to withstand many different weather extremes.

But I ended up getting a Springbar instead.

Appears to be almost identical to a Springbar.

I would not be a fan of the first tent since it only has a 4 foot ceiling at the highest point. I'll take my 6'6" wall height.

Those are all are cool tents but I would think a big factor as to wether it stays put or blows to Utah would be how deep the tent steaks go into the ground. It might be made from military grade material but if the steaks only go six inches in, if hurricane force winds develope like last year, I would think it's a goner. However many steaks come with it you might want to invest five or ten dollars at Lowes and get an equal amount of at least 1/4or3/8"x 2or3ft rebar and bend one end of each piece into a cane shape or bend sharply in half into a u or v shape and use that along with factory steaks. Mind you though as pound the rebar into the ground, if you hit the hard pan the rebar will continue to bend and won't go in much deeper. That is one draw back with rebar. Wish you the best whatever you do.

Don't forget guy-lines too. If you're concerned about your tent holding up to the winds then guy-lines should be your new best friend.

So far as rebar goes, if you can find someone to sharpen it for you it gets a whole lot easier to pound it into the playa. And don't forget to put tennis ball or rubber stoppers or something on top, and don't forget to bring vice grips to get it out at the end of the week.

Good saftey tips there Jezebel. I've used 12" orange traffic cones and they seem to work. They're soft and bright orange

I did spend a very pleasant night cuddled up in playa info once.
Changes your whole outlook on the place.
The crowds wake you up in the morning though.

My $75 Eureka tent easily withstood the storms last year with 12" plastic stakes. I duct taped plastic bags over the open mesh areas and very little dust made it inside.

Now the shade structure for this year, that's gonna require rebar.
